Cheney won foreign policy.
Edwards is winning domestic policy. Domestic policy is more important. It also comes last, which is what people remember.

But Cheney is not coming across as unlikeable.

4. He is coming across as unlikeable
I think his attacks on Edwards will backfire. He comes across as intelligent but also as cranky and mean.

19. Edwards attacked him, too.
It's not a one-way street. To tell the truth, I hated Cheney before tonight; now I find myself liking the guy as well-meaning, but wrong -- he's made catastrophic errors, but he thought he was doing the right thing at the time. After watching Bush last week, on the other hand, I just hated him more.

The evil genius behind Bush. Totally unlikable no matter how he tries to present some kind of grandfatherly role.

38. Edwards attacked him too.
I didn't see the very first part because c-span's website was down, but from what I saw, Edwards attacked first. Cheney counterpunched. He comes across as a little nasty when he does. I expected him to come across differently though, meaner, and there's actually humanity there. When Edwards attacks, he is smooth.

As I'm typing this, it seems the fight is going out of Cheney, and Edwards is taking over.

Cheney lied on foreign policy, the media won't catch it, but so long the campaign points it out loudly, it is okay.

Iraq is a disaster. That is all but the hard core 30% who will support Bush no matter what. Edwards simply had to remind them of the failures of this administration.

he hit the points of going to Iraq instead of where bin Laden was etc..

Edwards hit his points like Kerry did on foreign policy. All Cheney could do was keep saying 'terror' and the usual hollow talking points.

30. Cheney didn't come close to winning foreign policy. He was destroyed.
First, Edwards' Halliburton attack was significant because it was so concise, so specific, and so pointed, Cheney was rattled enough to spend the next two or three speaking opportunities to keep addressing the Halliburton attack. The issues covered during this lapse belonged to Edwards because his positions were not contested.

Second, Edwards' argumentation regarding the distortions Cheney uttered right to his face, Cheney was unable to cope with the substance of those, instead falling back on stump-speech rhetoric.

There are many other areas where JE kicked his ass on foreign policy but these will do for now.

:D

i think Edwards very direct statement that the American people know the truth about how bad things are in Iraq no matter how the vp tries to spin them was the most powerful, and the most memorable, statement made during the foreign policy debate ...
