I don't know what fucking debate you people saw |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 10:37 PM by Nimble_Idea
But the Debate where Edwards destroyed Cheney was a masterpiece. Edwards not only had this fool stunted, he had him backed up and no thought of where to go. Cheney kept saying..."I don't know where to begin" He said that several times. He also returned to his talking points over and over, admittedly so did Edwards, but Edwards came there WITH that plan, and Cheney didn't know what the heck he was doing. Cheney Looked so uncomfortable at the closing statement. He kept Fidgeting with his hands, it was like he wasn't sure of himself. He kept stumbling over his words, which I rarely saw Cheney do....It was plain for all of America to see. Should Edwards have to be Commander in Chief or Dick Cheney....The American People have spoken...it was the clear winner, John Edwards.
So for the rest of you who think you have to sit here and absorb shit from the TV, and so easily manipulated by it, I feel sorry for you. But 2-3 days from now, there is no question the American people saw Edwards win that Debate, and will give Edwards the Nod on Nov. 2nd.
On EDIT: KEY POINTS
Cheney: I don't know if I can Answer that in 30 seconds...
Moderator: THATS ALL YOU GOT.
Moderator: Respond to Edwards talking about Gay Daughter Cheney : I thank Edwards and have nothing else to say. (In other words, Go Cheney yourself Shrub)
It was simpley amazing.
Edwards said EXACTLY what I have been wanting John Kerry to say.
Shrub is FOR TAX CUTS for PEOPLE OUTSOURCING AMERICAN JOBS. Kerry is FOR TAX CUTS for PEOPLE who KEEPS JOBS HERE IN AMERICA.
It's that simple! And John Edwards WON big time. And Ohio will speak loud and Clear. Thank God for John Edwards, I take back anything I ever said bad about you. Tonight you proved you were the right choice for VP!!
On 2nd EDIT: Edwards showed that he was far smarter than Cheney. He was alert and kept cheney on the defense. Cheney like I said before was hit so hard and at so many angles "I don't know where to begin" because he got beat up bad by the bad boy himself John Edwards. John Edwards really impressed me tonight.
Kerry-Edwards!!

People were expecting a rout like Kerry/*.
That just was not going to happen. Cheney is not a lightweight. He is a liar, an acomplished one at that.
Edwards approached this as a lawyer. Create reasonable doubt.
Which he did.
Cheney wasn't going to enact a scene from Perry Mason "I DID IT, I CONFESS".
You can't win against a sociopath, just reveal as much as possible, which did.

That's a real plus for Kerry, IMO.

16. Exactly right on the "I don't know where to begin" |
|
It meant he didn't know what to say. He used it to stall and evade. I want to repeat here as I said in another post that Cheney's monotone and breathy speaking voice lost me several times; my attention drifted. And I'm sure with an American viewing public that generally has a short attention span, Cheney lost them. Edwards, on the other hand, was riveting and engaging. He was able to get his message heard.

I saw no signs of intimidation on Edwards part. I saw a strong committment to calling Cheney and Bush for what they are...liars and war profiteers. I also liked that Edwards refuted the garbage about he and Kerry voting to not give the troops what they need and how he exposed Cheney for the liar he is when he said that he and Bush lobbied to cut combat pay for the troops. Cheney never refuted that fact and all the Repuke's around here are constantly telling me that Kerry is cutting pay and resources for the troops...such a crock of shit.

26. Not "destroyed." But Edwards won by a tad, IMO. Cheney looked |
|
flustered a couple of times; first time I've seen that. He's so cool, calm, and collected. Still, Cheney did his usual good routine with a good command of the facts.
And Edwards did what he needed to do....go toe to toe with one of the best political debaters in the country with over 30 years of public service experience. And he did it. He had Cheney backed into a corner a few times. And he did it with poise, confidence, and facts. He was superb.
Edwards edged Cheney out by a tad. (Of course, since I support K/E, he blew me away, but trying to look at it objectively, I think it was close to a draw, but then Edwards in the end edged him out and won.)

he was going for the conflict of interest and pay. Edwards went for what I've been whining about on DU for so long - their use of susidiaries to continue sales to Saddam (one of the reasons they bought Dresser despite the asbestos issues) The lawsuits and investigations against them and the fact that payments are not being withheld during the negotiations.
Edit to finish thought (DOH!) Cheney was set to defend his deferred payments, that's what that look on his face was about and his tossing factcheck out there.
YEAH!!!!!

As a Kerry/Edwards supporter, I agree with you 100%.
However, the undecided voter could easily have watched that and said, "Cheney seems to know what he is talking about and I feel comfortable that he is in charge."
The reality is that it was probably a draw, and that doesn't hurt or help us. Fine. What this does is set the bar high for the real President on Friday. He can't just get up there and stammer..."It's hard work bein' pres'dent."
No, Cheney did fine for his side. Edwards was incredible.
Bush, on the other hand, will continue to be his normal clueless self on Friday and that is what people are going to remember.

41. I'm talking about ignorant voters |
|
who still have no idea who they will vote for.
It is entirely possible that these voters looked at Cheney tonight and saw an "in charge" kind of person who says things with conviction.
You and I know that he was full of shit. You and I know that he lied whenever he spoke. You and I know that he is a very dangerous man. Many of the undecideds don't know this, and still don't know it. It was Cheney's word against Edward's word. Unless the Chris Matthews of the world start analyzing the content, then undecided voters may just go on perceptions.
The good thing is that Cheney did look mean and negative while Edwards looked fresh and upbeat. That will help with some undecideds.
All in all, I don't think this debate hurt or helped us. The race is still even. Friday night will be key.

Among undecideds, Edwards came out ahead of Cheney.
Amomg women, (the so-called "security moms") Edwards came out ahead of Cheney.
Those were the two key demographics. Edwards beat Cheney in both of them.
Plus over 50% of undecideds now have a more favorable impression of Edwards (only 29% said the same for Cheney) according to CBSNews.
Edwards is decimating Cheney in the online polls. Edwards has 71% of the vote at MSNBC, 85% at CNN, and over 50% even at FoxNews.
The fact is, some people here were expecting a "rout" like Kerry v. Bush Round 1. But Cheney is no Bush. He's a smart guy, with 30+ years in politics. Edwards did very, very well and we are well-positioned for the Friday debate.

Well, at least give him credit for saying "I dont know where to begin". It sounds much more human than the "UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH <long silence)" of Bush's non answers. However Cheney didnt have alot of answers to edwards points. Quite a few times he just didnt bother responding? I wouldnt think that would look good in the eyes of an undecided. Just more stonewalling and lies from the BC camp. If ya cant lie, use silence!
Edwards won, the spinsters didnt want it to happen, but I bet we see tomorrow more people jumping on the edwards won bandwagon after they poll the public. Matthews et al based edwards good. I really cant believe some of the things CM said right after the debate was over. Sent him an email about it too, i encourage everyone to do the same!!

Edwards did a great job.
Cheney is no Bush...he is smart and very good at lying without remorse. His lies come across as fact. This can sway some voters. As long as it is at least a draw, we are fine. I think that in the eyes of many undecideds who saw it, it will be considered a draw. Great!
I like your poll results...where did those come from so quickly?
The online polls are still meaningless, but the other results you quote are great.

Jobs, health care, the deficit, the war. And the Halliburton stuff was great! Plus, Cheney shot himself in the foot with his final statement where he said something to the effect that he and * had put the country on a positive economic track during their term (don't remember exactly how it went). Huh?!?! He's seriously on crack if he thinks anyone is going to believe that. So score for the K/E Team!:bounce: :toast: :headbang:
