Why did Cheney feel the need to lie about meeting Edwards?
Apparently they at least met at a prayer breakfast, which Mrs. Edwards supposedly helpfully pointed out to crashcart. This was a totally unnecessary lie. Besides he basically said he spends only one day a week in the Senate and who says he "meets" every Senator on that day? It was a totally asinine thing to say and the media better nail him on it the way they did with Gore when they thought he had "embellished" something. Hopefully there are some photos around that show the two of them together.

1. Liz (Lynn?) Cheney said it was because Edwards was inconsequential.
There's a thread about it, don't know if Lynne Cheney was on or if they have a daughter Liz??

But whomever it was said that that's how much of an impact he made that Cheney didn't even remember meeting him.

2. Because they lie about everything, it's just a habit
As I said in another thread, Cheney would lie about which direction he wipes his ass. They can't help themselves. Even when all things are equal, they will still go for the lie.

7. Hell, maybe Cheney wants to lose

Maybe he was sitting there thinking what the hell is the point of it anyway. He's a Republican...he cares only about himself and his money. He has plenty of money and another 4 years in politics may not be good for his health.

8. He was determined to use that line:"...I haven't met you until tonight...
..." to underscore the (false) impression that Edwards was blowing off his senate duties.

And Cheney has never let the truth stand in the way of a policy whim.

14. Yep, Cheney planned to say that
I guess he thought the lap-dog press and nobody else would bother to check the accuracy (or perhaps he thought more people would hear him say that than would hear the proven fact?)
