Cheney blew it with his anger.
Because the main problem Bush had in his debate with Kerry, was his obvious anger issues, Cheney blew it by being angry, negative, and morose. If you saw his debate with Joe Lieberman in 2000, you'd see that Cheney is quite capable of being fairly congenial and pleasant. His biggest mistake was to lose that personna and take on Edwards, after Bush was shown to the world as an angry, frustrated man.

Edwards was amazing in his restraint. Cheney insulted him personally so many times, the moderator screwed Edwards over repeatedly denying a 30 second response, while fucking OFFERING one to Cheney (how lame was that). Edwards came off energetic, serious, thoughful, and pleasant. Which two guys would you rather have a beer with?

1. It wasn't JUST the anger. It was the anger, plus the sadness, plus being
desultory, plus being confused.

His emotions were all over the place and they were all in response to Edwards being strong, consistent, intelligent, witty, truthful and firm.

2. The sadness... I'm glad you mentioned that..
I told my family that when Edwards spoke of Cheney's daughter, Cheney's entire body language changed. He seemed deflated, sad, and seemed to question why he was there.. (I can read people like a book), his simple reply to Edwards was sincere.

Cheney was typically somewhat moderate. He is whoring for Bush & Co. I don't like Cheney, but I saw his humanity (for once) at that moment. It's like he was letting his daughter down.. it was wierd. After that, even tho he got some zingers in, he was different. Quieter, less energy, less everything.

5. Cheney did seem more "human" tonight.
I agree with you. He lost something when Edwards brought up his lesbian daughter. Edwards brought him down to earth with that talk, and he really didn't know how to respond.

I don't care much for the man, either. But for all the talk of Cheney's "prowess" he didn't quite live up to it tonight.

7. For the first time in four years
...I actually thought he could pass for a human. I guess he really does love his kids.

I'm pretty sure he still boils kittens, though. Hey, some say, that's all I'm saying!

8. I didn't get to watch the debate but listen on the radio.
But I was speaking to my brother on the phone and he said about the same thing you are saying. Well I'm glad I tivo the debate.

3. I'll steal Cheney's change off the bar, and buy one for John.
Hell, it came out of my pocket at some point anyway.

6. It's more like, whose family would you rather dine with, at their house?
Dick or Edwards? A no-brainer, to my way of thinking.
