Cheney's Mammoth Blunder: Sent Viewers to Soros Website!
Remember when he said for people to go to factcheck.com?

That's George Soros's site. Go there and you will find a screaming headline that reads: WHY WE MUST NOT RE-ELECT PRESIDENT BUSH.

Cheney meant to send people to factcheck.org, of course, that Pew site.

This has got to be one of the biggest televised screwups ever--and I'm loving it!

6. Yeah, on the debate threads, people went there and found a spam site
I can check the waybackmachine at archive.org. But it looks like Soros' people did a very good thing very very fast.

4. Thank you Dick!
Since the correct site http://factcheck.org had for the top headline:

Bush Mischaracterizes Kerry's Health Plan
10.04.2004
Bush claims Kerry's plan puts "bureaucrats in control" of medical decisons, "not you, not your doctor." But experts don't agree with that.

Outstanding Dick! :bounce:

5. Works for us either way
There's no way you want to send undecideds over to factcheck.org or factcheck.com.

Factcheck.org reputes the military vote lie.

And factcheck.com reputes everything else.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :7

Edit to add:

1. Heaven knows the B/C team doesn't have diddly in the way of in-depth info on their own site. Funny how Kerry just sent people to johnkerry.com for additional data to add to his points - with no muss, no fuss, no need for refutations.

2. Dick was trying to be all "dot com" cool. pwn3d!

10. A funny thing happened during the debate.
I sent that subject to friends with a link to the factcheck.com website. I think that would be the LAST place he would send people for the facts.

15. I had to add this note to my essay
Author's Note | I spent Tuesday evening watching the debate, and then
writing about it. When I was done, I went to the website Dick Cheney told
Americans to visit in order to get the truth about Kerry's record. Cheney
said we should view 'FactCheck.com,' but as a seasoned internet scrambler,
I knew immediately he meant 'FactCheck.org'. Not much difference between
a .com and a .org, right?

Wrong. FactCheck.com is a website owned by George Soros. The banner
headline across the top of the page reads 'WHY WE MUST NOT RE-ELECT
PRESIDENT BUSH.' You can assume what the content to follow has to say, or
you can go visit the site yourself. I'd love to see what Soros' hit
counts look like on Wednesday morning. This is a fairly solid allegory
for Dick Cheney's night at the desk. - wrp

22. See replies 1 & 6; particularly neat that Soros' people jumped on this
immediately. Wayback Machine says that the site was formerly Solid Solutions Consulting. Whois shows that the domain registration changed hands 9/12; presumably it changed again last night. Hmmm, running the Whois search through Tucows elicits additional information that the owners as of 9/12 were in the Virgin Islands, backing up earlier observations that it was a spam site.

Anyway, don't know if this info would help your article; I just thought it was neat.

26. He doesn't own it
"We do not own the FactCheck.com domain name and are not responsible for it redirecting to GeorgeSoros.com. We are as surprised as anyone by this turn of events. We believe that Vice President Cheney intended to direct viewers to FactCheck.org."

http://www.georgesoros.com/

It seems that the real owner of the domain hates Bush all on his own, was not using it for actual content at the time and had a brilliant idea when he heard it mentioned.

However it happened, it's pretty cool.

28. Actually there was a thread on this earlier that indicated that
the owner of the domain name "factcheck.com" redirected to soros site unsolicited by soros... i think symbolman did the DD.

21. Was Cheney's blunder reported on the TV "news"?
The first I learned of it was on the Guardian UK.

Was it censored from the TV news???

Also, factcheck.com had server problems this morning and was down.

Are they rewriting history, per Cheney?

23. thats not the whole story
The site was ane empty site as soon as Cheney announced it. Soros bought it in 5 minutes and then had the final page up 5 minutes after that.

It did not exist when Cheney annoucned it. Ten minutes later it did.

24. Soros didn't buy the domain
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 02:08 PM by high density
Soros' website says:

"We do not own the FactCheck.com domain name and are not responsible for it redirecting to GeorgeSoros.com. We are as surprised as anyone by this turn of events. We believe that Vice President Cheney intended to direct viewers to FactCheck.org."

Evidently some liberal domain squatter owns the domain and is giving Cheney the middle finger by having it forward to georgesoros.com.

27. That was confirmed in DailyKos--the domain owner redirected
the traffic to Soros' site. Cheney should be relieved; it could have been redirected to something way more offensive!

25. That *can't* happen
you can buy it, and assign an IP address to it, and maybe even have a sight up in 5 minutes but it takes 24-72 hours for all the DNS servers in the world to be notified of the change.

Plus if you do a whois lookup for you get the following result:
