Edwards solidified the Minority vote tonight
When he cleverly pointed out Cheney opposed Martin Luther King Day.

6. yes, she asked specifically about black women in america, not globally
yet he still went into the global things and never addressed the actual question. he did this many times.

11. Out of touch, out of time?
Didn't he say something about not knowing anything about the AIDS issue here in the US? If he did, that seems to me that would've been a great opening for Edwards to paint Cheney as being "out of touch" with what is going on in THIS country. Hopefully, Kerry (or Edwards) can pick up on this and get it out there in the media along with an attack on the administration's insistence on mandating that schools that receive federal funds promote abstinence-only sex education instead of more comprehensive sex education that has a greater likelihood of actually ADDRESSING this problem!

4. Edwards and Kerry should be trying hard
to secure the black vote and Cuban vote. A few points for the MLK holiday remark, did not solidify anything.

8. Do cubans consider themselves a minority?
I thought the majority of cuban-americans consider themselves white.

16. Cuban-Americans have traditionally been solidly right-wing Republicans
but Bush has pissed off a lot of them with his excessive hardline sanctions on Cuba. This is a prime opportunity that K/E need to capitalize on.

20. America considers 'hispanic' a separate catergory...
but it's not a race. They can be white, black, native america, etc. or a mixture of some of these.

as for if they consider themselves minorities. I guess it depends on who you ask. :)

that were pretty obviously bad for black America.

7. I almost jumped off the couch and shouted with glee
when Edwards brought up Cheney's record. I didn't know about the voting against MLK holiday or Meals on Wheels, but I was hoping and praying someone would finally bring up the weapons Cheney wanted to get rid of. Yay!

10. good points
made by Edwards that shouldn't hurt. That said, there is still work to be done in establishing that a vote for Kerry-Edwards will make a tangible difference in the lives of minority voters specifically.

Where I live (central Alabama), black voters are viewed in the broadest and most sterotypical of ways - candidates in both parties seem to think a few strategic points about African American "issues" or PC catch phrases are enough to win them over. Ironically, they are also very often the most thoughtful and discerning of potential supporters, if only someone would give them more than a sound byte and a campaign trail smile.

I don't mean to sound all gloom and doom. I think John Kerry's appearances on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and at the Congressional Black Caucaus annual convention were very important. These genuine attempts to connect have been largely ignored in the mainstream media and on this board.

17. as i've said before
the problem with this race is that Iraq has dominated. If Kerry talks about mostly about domestic while Bush is hammering him on Iraq, he sinks.

You are right, the media ignored the Black Causus Dinner. They will ignore every attempt John makes to get minority votes...and then they'll do stories about how he's 'lagging' in minority votes. :eyes:

Which was to air all Cheney's dirty laundry and take the air out of their claims that the Democratic ticket is wishy washy.

Nice job, John.
