It's going to be an impromptu hour-long fireside chat with the American peoples.

Any one taking bet on how many flags he gets up behind him? What about a black face? Or some one from N YC and the WTC.

8. Not a monologue. Rex or whatever |
|
his dog's name is will be there apparently. Just a casual relaxed talk to the camera as he wanders through the White House clarifying things that people might be wondering about. Nothing special, just an hour of relaxed rapping from the President.

12. Well, I think it might be fascinating. |
|
I'm looking forward to it. I don't like him any better than you but I wouldn't mind getting to know the W a little better via a rambling travelogue kind of address as he shows off the White House. They're comparing it to a combination of a FDR type fireside chat on the war and Jackie Kennedy's friendly tour of the major historical furniture & knickknacks in the White House.

from last week's debate. This kind of shit may work for some easily persuadable morons and this election is too tight to chance it. This is a BAD thing for us- that's my opinion. It is also designed to pre-empt any train-wreck performance at this Friday's debate- or at least make folks sympathetic to the poor boob, and make Kerry 'mean' for attacking him. Bad, Bad, Bad. I haven't seen or heard any mention of it yet- and it is uspposed to be tonight, right? I hope not.

17. Last I heard it was going to be kind of an open house |
|
where reporters could come and go, snacks, soda pop, and so forth. The reason theyre doing it like that is that way it's just a White House tour and if he happens to give a stray view on terrorists it doesnt count as giving him special air-time, although I believe the equal time thing is kaput, no? So people wont try to demand giving Kerry time too. In any case, look for a relaxed setting with the twins running in and out on their way to tennis, drinks, etc., and kind of a My Three Sons atmosphere like Fred McMurray. He is at his best off the cuff with guys around just goofing off, so the Secret Service and Jeb will probably be popping in and out, and he'll slip in a loose opinion on Zahrquawi here and there. People will be able to tune in when they want for as long as they want. Relaxed and casual is the key words. Nothing special, nothing to get excited about.

21. Yes, something like that. |
|
Of course, there will be no alcohol or drugs around or consumed by anybody in the White House. It will be relaxed but not that sort, and there will be the W's speech going on in the mist of festivities, kind of like the "speech" the father of a large clan gives at the head of the table before he carve the bird.

Bea Arthur sparked a security scare at Logan Airport in Boston this week when she tried to board a Cape Air flight with a pocketknife in her handbag.
"She started yelling that it wasn't hers and said 'The terrorists put it there,' " a fellow passenger said. "She kept yelling about the 'terrorists, the terrorists, the terrorists.' "
After the blade was confiscated, Arthur took a keyring from her bag and told the agent it belonged to the "terrorists," before throwing it at them.
As she boarded the plane, she told the TSA employees, "We're all doomed."
A spokeswoman for Cape Air says, "Miss Arthur was cracking jokes and was a real character."http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/entertainment/9498532.htm

That happened in August, so she's probably released or escaped by now. She would fit right in with the Bush Family Christwar Holiday Casual Get-Together White Hour Tour Speech. When the hell is that thing?

3. He HAS to make this speech. |
|
He blew it so badly last week that he has to try and redeem himself through a tightly controlled, scripted speech. The guy just isn't good off the cuff. This is another sign the Bushies are getting desparate. I just hope Kerry jumps on this and demands airtime, too.

6. The GOP also wants to get the discussion off the Democrats |
|
and back onto the them. So that's one more reason to attempt to control the news cycle for another 24 hours, by making this "major" speech.

9. A back-door stump speech, maybe? |
|
From the description I got on NPR, it's supposed to be a folksy li'l ol' chat where Unca Dubya tells us boys and girls just how important it is that he wins re-election. Because if we elect John Kerry, the Terrists will win.
Talk about "cheating" -- I'd like to see John Kerry get that kind of broadcast time to pimp his program after getting his ass kicked in a fair-fight debate on national TV.
Oh, wait a minute -- John Kerry didn't get his ass kicked in a fair-fight debate on national TV. That would be ... Bush.
How can so many people still be convinced that George Bush is God's holy vessel here on Planet Earth?
