The Argyle General (Maureen Dowd's Attempt At Relevance)
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 02:56 PM by Skinner
Moderators- I've posted 14 sentences here. Maureen doesn't seem able to do paragraphs.

The joke about Dowd and her hatred of Bill Clinton back in the day, was to figure if she was trying to retaliate against Clinton because he Did or Did NOT make a pass at her.

WASHINGTON--Can we trust a man who muffs his mufti?

Trying to soften his military image and lure more female voters in New Hampshire, Gen. Wesley Clark switched from navy suits to argyle sweaters. It's an odd strategy. The best way to beat a doctor is not to look like a pharmacist.

General Clark's new pal Madonna, who knows something about pointy fashion statements, should have told him that those are not the kind of diamonds that make girls swoon.

Is there anything more annoying than argyle? Maybe Lamar Alexander's red plaid shirt. Maybe celebrities sporting red Kabbalah strings.

Well at least Dowd is trying to be trendy by mentioning Kabbalah strings. She probably knows Madonna studies Kabbalah and wants to be seen as hip too! This is the prime motivating factor in all Dowd's columns- not political commentary.

1. Two major national articles about clothes, none about issues
The national corporate media will cut off their own sex organs with a butter knife to avoid covering the issues in this election.

Process. Clothes. Process. Madonna. Process.

3. such a shallow woman
The NYT has invented the idea that Clark is wearing sweaters in an effort to narrow the gender gap. I find it hard to believe that New Yorkers don't realize its cold in New hampshire in January. Mo cites the Slate article in which Chris Suellentrop discusses how Clark and some of his people went to the LL Bean outlet to pick up a warm coat for one of his aides. There was absolutely no discussion about buying sweaters to appeal to women. The argyle sweater he borrowed from his brother-in-law. She knows this, she read the article. Her editorial is full of lies and she knows it.

The most obscene thing about his whole article though is her unmitigated gall in criticizing Clark for being concerned about his wardrobe instead of Powell's latest revelations about the lack of Al Quada and Iraq links. Excuse me, but who is worried about Wes' wardrobe? Not Wes, that's for sure. Its seems to be Mo and the NYT who are obsessing about it. Wes has been talking for months about the fact that there's no connection between Al Quada and Iraq. Where the hell has Mo Dowd been?

4. Well I said the same thing. If he wants to look attractive
to women, forget the sweaters and don the military uniform.

Isn't this a no-brainer?

Geez.
