Saddam destroyed weapons in 1991, report says

By John Diamond, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — An extensive U.S. investigation has found that Iraq destroyed virtually all its chemical and biological munitions in 1991, a dozen years before President Bush ordered U.S. troops to invade based largely on the alleged threat posed by those weapons.
The report will be presented Wednesday to a Senate committee by chief U.S. arms inspector Charles Duelfer. It says Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein believed in the deterrent power conferred by weapons of mass destruction but ordered them destroyed in an effort to end sanctions imposed on his country after the Persian Gulf War in 1991. The key findings of the report were described Tuesday by a high-level administration official who has been briefed on its contents.

1. Scott Ritter, paging Mr. Scott Ritter.....
Funny how Ritter's pre-war conclusions have been lost in the media memory hole. Whores.

2. I guess the self-serving civil servant, Hans Blix was also correct
Just think how many inspectors $200 billion could buy. What a ridiculous waste of our money. Thanks Georgie.

3. Funny thing,
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 08:36 AM by LynnTheDem
but I can't seem to stop crying.

It could be how close I came to losing my soldier hubby for nothing in Iraq.

Or maybe it's for my 23-year old new dad of a nephew currently in Iraq. For nothing.

Or the 14 friends whose funerals I attended over the past 2 years, when their bodies were flown home in the dark of night for nothing from Iraq.

Yet I knew there was no "WMD" in Iraq. I've had a group of rabid rightwingnuts stalking me ever since November 2002, when I'd first dared to post my opinions of same.

So why can't I stop crying? Strange.

4. Hang in there Lynn, we are all crying a little but it sounds like you
have been much closer to it than a lot of us. I read it and for some reason I am trying to think what John Kerry said when he spoke to the Senate Sub Committee, it went "How do you ask the last man to die for, can't remember how the rest goes.

More and more seem to be coming out like a drip on this thing Bush took us all to.

5. Yes there is an interview from 95 or 96 when Saddam's son-in-laws
defected along with his two daughters to Jordon, they were interviewed by the Russians (I believe) where Hussein Kamal clearly stated that the weapons had been destroyed and he had in fact been in charge of their destruction shortly after GWI. It's on-line somewhere through globalresearch in an article written by a former Iraqi nuclear scientist living in Canada. He's not an INC defecter.
