Another nail in coffin. Allawi admits it is worse than he said
IRAQ IN TRANSITION

Iraq's Allawi departs from optimistic perspective of war

By Edward Wong

Published October 6, 2004

BAGHDAD -- In his first speech before the interim national assembly, Prime Minister Ayad Allawi gave a sobering account Tuesday of the threat posed by the insurgency, saying the country's instability is a "source of worry for many people" and that the guerrillas represent "a challenge to our will."

So, after reading the White House drafted speach to Congress, even CIA spy Allawi goes home and faces the truth. I never EVER ceased to be amazed that these Rovian ogres.

1. Gee, he didn't change his speech based on his audience, did he?
Or maybe this is what happens when he writes his own speech instead of giving one written by the Bush* administration.

2. Well, there is the truth for internal
consumption and the truth to be exported.

It's much harder to tell the Iraqis how great things are going there.

4. That's strange - I thought freedom was on the march
I thought democracy was flowering across the Middle East, since Unka Dick says that's the only way to stop terrorism.

5. Missed Opportunity Last Night
When Crashcart faked indignation over the "insulting of our great Iraqi ally" (Alawi), Edwards could have and should have gone after this lie.

First, Alawi is not an elected leader nor did he even lead any popular liberation movement and was a Baath thug & murderer. But since Chalabi screwed up (or was that Chenney...and where was this name in the debates???), Alwai was the next PNAC'er chosen. Again...where's the mention of this evil group? Millions still don't know about this and how it led to the mess we're in now...and they want even more.

Next, Alawi is not recognized as a sovereign leader by most countries...and this Iraq government is viewed upon as a puppet regime of the U.S. It's no different than the Soviets imposing their rule, by a local proxy, over Eastern Europe. Unless he's elected in legitimate elections recognized by the U.N. or other international organization (NATO, Arab League, Sam's Club) he'll stay a puppet. Time to call this crap to an end.

I know it's not Edwards job to make noise on this...but he had the archetect of this failed policy and the crooks and profiteers associated with it. Unfortunately, a great opportunity to confront him in greater detail came and went and a big lie remains that could have been called for what it is...especially in light of yesterday's Bremmer & von Rumsfeldt's statements.

9. I hear you, IM,

But what's Edwards going to say? The US has installed a puppet government in Iraq? Now you believe that and I believe that, but I still didn't even like TYPING it!

There are some things you just can't say without seeming to speak ill of our COUNTRY.

And I feel this goes in the same category as the Chalabi issue--undecided Americans do not care enough about it to go down that road. With so little time and so many issues Edwards was forced to pick and choose his battles. And it would take a book to unravel that mess.

I highly doubt the undecideds are undecided because they are concerned about the internal political issues of post-war Iraq.

15. Don't you know it's all Kerry's fault
for dissing the interim dicta...er ruler? Kerry's comments gave the insurgents the motivation they needed and transformed things overnight into a hellhole! Damn him!

*wink wink*

The Republican pointy finger has been redirected from Clinton to Kerry for all things evil.

16. The Republican Evil Forces do everything they can to keep the SPICE
The Control, the Power, the Profits, the Stash, and the Minds of the Stepford Sheep.

They stop at nothing to squish descension, they lie cheat, steal, denigrate, and brain wash. Edwards sgould have said something to that effect...Truth is brutal and harsh but is mandatory in a good society....

17. flip flop!
when he's with Bush in Washington, he says what Bush wants people to hear.

When he's back home in Iraq, he faces up to the truth.
