It's not so much that the Dems have had it for a while as that the guy who owns factcheck.com is an advertiser based in the Caymans who, to compensate for the huge traffic spike post-debate and to punish Cheney for his screw up, started redirecting all visitors to George Soros' site.

In other words, factcheck.com isn't run by the Dems, though the guy who runs it seems to lean Democratic himself.

Unlike the president, Vice-President Cheney presented himself as rather articulate and a master of facts.

Some Cheney facts worthy of note ...

Cheney: “The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight.”
Truth: The VP met Mr. Edwards at least 3 times before the debate (Source:AP)

Cheney: "I have not suggested there's a connection between Iraq and 9/11,"
Truth: Cheney cites Iraq’s "long-established ties to Al Qaeda“ in every stump speech

The biggest whopper was in Cheney’s response to Edwards remark about “America has taken 90 percent of the coalition casualties.“:

Cheney: “Well, Gwen, the 90 percent figure is just dead wrong. When you include the Iraqi security forces that have suffered casualties, as well as the allies, they've taken almost 50 percent of the casualties in operations in Iraq, which leaves the U.S. with 50 percent, not 90 percent.
Truth: 1064 US casualties. 138 Other Countries. Iraqis killed: 13,000. Indeed the Iraqis have suffered tremendous losses, but is just plain wrong to include the Iraqis killed in the invasion in this context. Can you imagine what the world would say if Hitler had tried to claim (in his casualty count) the 6,000,000 German Jews he sent to death?

Lastly, I took Mr. Cheney’s good advice and went to “factcheck.com”. Mr. Cheney was right again:

“PRESIDENT Bush is endangering

Our safety, hurting our vital interests

And undermining American values”

Thank you Mr. Vice President for setting the record straight!
Perhaps Mr. Cheney meant to say -- go to “factcheck.org”, but who am I to tell the VP of the USA what to say, let alone where to go.

Cheney wrongly implied that FactCheck had defended his tenure as CEO of Halliburton Co., and the vice president even got our name wrong. He overstated matters when he said Edwards voted "for the war" and "to commit the troops, to send them to war." He exaggerated the number of times Kerry has voted to raise taxes, and puffed up the number of small business owners who would see a tax increase under Kerry's proposals.

In fact, we did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right.

Neither comes off as perfectly representing all the facts, but I love that Cheney sent people to that.
