Edwards was PERFECT last night.

Cheney was awful. Looked awful and was caught in at least two out and out lies.

That is all.

1. Cheney: Scowling, hunched-over, whispering, and pale.
He looked awful. He sounded awful.

And he lied through his teeth.

(I think it's funny that the pundits are saying it was a draw.)

2. I made the horrifying mistake of watching MSNBC after.
And I swear, listening to those fucking idiots (and that's the last damn time I'm watching Chris Matthews) gush and fawn all over Cheney, I was beginning to wonder if I was Alice in Wonderland or something. :-)

But I agree with YOU. John Edwards was brilliant last night. An excellent job refuting Cheney and his lies.

3. I watched CBS and it seemed pretty fair.
Yes, they had some guy who practiced with Cheney on saying he was great but then they had Dianne Feinstein on who did a good job of pointing out all of Edwards' positives. Even the commentators seemed to lean toward Edwards. And it was great when they announced that their focus group of undecided voters strongly favored Edwards!

4. Cheney is not a well man.... neither physically nor IMHO mentally...
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 09:49 AM by Medialize
Shrub is on the telly telling everyone (and they are clapping on cue) that mean old nasty trial lawyers are responsible for the loss of jobs in Amurka.... says doctors and entrepeneurs should not be making trial lawyers rich.

Perhaps he would like to explain why a lawyer he knows personally (family lawyer?) is representing the Saudis against their role in funding and supporting Al Qaida in the 911 disaster. Sooooo I suppose trial lawyers don't work in the rest of the world... and people don't get compensation for medical mistakes... and that all those countries in which medical malpractice suits go forward are hemorrhaging jobs out of their countries.... no Mr. Bush... you are on the wrong track... these suits about to less than 1% of all healthcare costs.... do the math... 2+2=3

Then there is this....

http://www.medical-malpractice-lawyers-attorneys.com/tort_reform_links.html
Bush is aiming at the wrong target to bring down health-care costs. According to the Consumer Federation of America, medical malpractice premiums make up less than one percent of our nation's health-care costs. That means that even completely eliminating medical liability would have virtually no impact on the cost of health care.

ENGLAND:
http://www.imonline.co.uk/PersonalInjury/medical_negligence.asp
However, a small percentage of patients treated every year in the NHS or privately may be the victim of a medical accident. When that accident can be attributed to incompetent care or lack of judgment, it may be possible to bring a claim for compensation.

And Australia, U.K., Israel, Germany, Canada, and let's not forget about Poland... all listed here:
Medical Malpractice Links
http://www.sppnn.org.pl/A/inne/alinki.html

American Iatrogenic Association (Relating to illnesses or death associated with medical care or treatment received)
http://www.iatrogenic.org/index.html
In 2000, a presidential task force labelled medical errors a "national problem of epidemic proportions." Members estimated that the "cost associated with these errors in lost income, disability, and health care costs is as much as $29 billion annually." That same year the Institute of Medicine released an historic report, "To err is human: building a safer health system." The report's authors concluded that 44,000 to 98,000 people die each year as a result of errors during hospitalization.

5. yes
People saw the past versus the future, fear versus hope, and more of the same versus a fresh start. Cheney was mean-spirited fear-mongerer.

7. He had to reast his chin on his folded hands several times.
When speaking causing the microphone to be muffled
That alone made him look like he had a problem.

8. I felt Edwards could have done better.
Seemed to me, he came to embroideron the stump speeches, and cheney came to tear a new one.

There were a couple of times, when cheney try to rip on Kerry's senate record, where Edwards could have stopped him mid-sentence and asked if "Was he on the "Wrong side" of defense when he voted for YOUR Bill to cut Defense Spending, Mr. Cheney?"

I also thought he could have handled the flip-flopping question differently...something like:

"No, i don't believe this "flip-flopping" accusation holds any water. This campaign, likes to act as if Mr. Kerry made all of his Senate votes in vacuum. And all in the matter of a couple of weeks. The Reality is, that these are votes made over a 20-year career. Have you never changed your mind or your vote in 20 years Mr. Cheney? What about when you were wanting defense cuts? Where you soft on defense, then Mr. Cheney? How about when you didn't want unilateral sanctions on Iran, because it would be bad for YOUR business? Now you want them. Does that make YOU a "flip-flopper", Mr. Cheney? This "flip-flopping" issues is a red herring, Gwen.

(i also would have used those little air-quote hand moves.)

But that's jsut me.

I did like when he busted Cheney out on his Senate record tho. "Sir - you voted AGAINST meals on wheels for seniors." hee!

I also think he outed Liz Cheney to the RW Base. I'm not sure they knew that she was gay.

I'd call it a draw.

Good was being nicer than necessary tho.

Seems the rest of the world thinks John did way better than i gave him credit for, so either i'm eternally paranoid of the spin machine, I'm too hard on him, or we did really really good with our clicking. ;-)

10. camera shot coloration... anyone else notice?
cheney's flesh tones looked the same from the one shot camera, and on the split screen as well.

Edwards looked fine when he was shot alone too, but in the split screen he really looked flushed and red.

15. NY Times editorial says Cheney tired, angry and dyspeptic
"Mr. Cheney, who won over many voters four years ago with his grandfatherly demeanor during a debate with Joseph Lieberman, seemed tired and angry. He was particularly dyspeptic when he responded to criticism of his relationship with Halliburton by claiming that Mr. Edwards had a bad attendance record in the Senate."

"Grandfatherly" ?? LOL

17. I read that Cheney only said Bush once
here on DU and we know Edwards said Kerry a lot. I thought sure we would notice that but my mom (77), regular person not involved in politics but watched debate emailed me today and said she noticed that Cheney didn't use Bush's name and wondered why? So I am thinking other americans noticed it also. Could be a big part of why Edwards got such a high rating.

19. Edwards made me proud last night
I though he came across in his usual compassionate, sensitive, intelligent manner.

Edwards did what he had to do last night. He made his points very well and didn't take much shit from Mr. Dick.

Edwards proved he is more than capable of being "a heartbeat" away.

Some have been saying Edwards could've/should've been stronger at times but i think Edwards did the job he was asked to do.

He was strong, no doubt.

Edwards hit Cheney/Shrub with a few upper cuts and jabs and now on Friday Kerry's gonna deliever the knockout punch.
