Has Dick Cheney always been a lying politician
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 11:21 AM by devrc243
or did it start with Halliburton? Seriously, after reading Richard Clarke's book, I get the impression from him that there has always been a "poker face" and mentions an "implacable facade" which actually cracked many times in the years he worked with him.

Also, I think it's interesting to note, that once again Cheney lies by denying he knows someone--Richard Clarke--who he (Cheney) says "wasn't in the loop so he wouldn't know" after Clarke's book came out damning this administration for the invasion of Iraq. It's clear that this is a pattern with Cheney when he is confronted with his own lies. Richard Clarke not always was "in the loop" he worked closely with Dick Cheney, especially during the events leading up to the first Gulf War.

The man is a habitual liar.

1. We do know that before the first Gulf War,
Cheney told Hussein that Kuwait was not within our defensive sphere, and Hussein seems to have taken that as permission to invade. So he has been stupid for a long time.

5. Not stupid at all.
It wasn't stupid - it was bait.

Cheney lied to Hussein, Hussein accepted the statement as truth and invaded Kuwait, drawing the response of the US and the coalition.

Cheney knew exactly what he was doing.

13. But I don't.
Why would he have told that lie at that time? What could he have gained?

2. It's always been his m.o. and he's an expert.
He lies very convincingly and is seldom called on it. It's almost as if other Washington insiders admire him for it.

6. it's because he lies in monotones and he squeezes it in
in with what he's ordering for lunch.

Kind of like: "I never said there was a connection between bin laden and Sadam, let me have the rib-eye with a tossed salad."

Yeah, there's no inflection in his voice to give away his lies. It's not until later that you think--wtf?

7. Look at HIS record
He only introduced two pieces of legislation while he was in Congress, and one was a "personal relief" request for a crony. He voted AGAINST MLK Day, AGAINST a resolution to free NELSON MANDELA, against HEAD START, against MEALS ON WHEELS....so, friends, what do we see in Little Big Dick? A guy who takes care of his pals, who hates Blacks, who devalues children, and who lets old people go hungry.

That's Dickie, in a nutshell.

We won't even go into the fact that he met Edwards at least twice, at the 2001 National Prayer Breakfast, where he ADDRESSED HIM IN HIS SPEECH, and when Edwards escorted new senator ELIZABETH DOLE to the floor of the Senate for her swearing-in ceremony.

In the old days, they'd call him a LIAR and a CAD (and challenge him to a Zell Miller duel!).

8. Check out today's Democracy Now...

Cheney has always been one of the most extreme RW politicians. He used to be able to paper over his record with a "reasonable" veneer. But the veneer has long since worn away.

9. No, he hasn't always been a lying politician.
There was a period a ways back when he was a lying toddler, followed by an undistinguished lying pre-school career, etc., etc., etc... :D
