Another Cheney lie exposed: Stating Iraq/Al Qaeda linked

In a speech Cheney delivered to the Heritage Foundation on or around October 10, 2003:

Regarding Saddam and Iraq, Cheney said: "He also had an established relationship with Al Qaida, providing training to Al Qaida members in the areas of poisons, gases, making conventional bombs."

Another from a Meet the Press transcript from September 14, 2003.

Asked if there were an Iraq link to 9/11, Cheney says the when he was previously asked that two years previously Cheney says: "At the time I said no, we didn’t have any evidence of that. Subsequent to that, we’ve learned a couple of things. We learned more and more that there was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda that stretched back through most of the decade of the ’90s, that it involved training, for example, on BW and CW, that al-Qaeda sent personnel to Baghdad to get trained on the systems that are involved. The Iraqis providing bomb-making expertise and advice to the al-Qaeda organization."

A third, from a Cheney speech to Air National Guard Senior Leadership
Conference, Denver, on 12/2/2002.

'Arguing against those who say that attacking Iraq is a
distraction from the war on terror, Cheney proclaimed: "It is
absolutely crucial to winning the war on terror. Saddam Hussein
is harboring terrorists and the instruments of terror. He is
pressing forward with weapons of mass destruction -- weapons he's
already used in his war against Iran and against his own people.
His regime has had high-level contacts with al Qaeda going back a
decade and has provided training to al Qaeda terrorists." '

I am certain there are other examples. I've heard even right wing newscasters saying their jaws dropped when Cheney denied ever having said there was a connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda. Yet now no one in the news is uttering a peep.

1. People who bother to educate themselves with respect

to this candidate know full well what he has said. I've heard him repeatedly make those claims that he now denies. Flip-flop?? No, just a damn liar.

2. And yet the news doesn't report this?

Pretty much everyone watching the debate seems to have recognized this as a bald faced lie. Are they so used to this administration lying that it's just not news?

We as Americans are pretty used to politicians lying on the campaign trail about taxes, or how they intend to spend them. But this is a lie regarding WHY WE WENT TO WAR. It's news, imho, and should be reported on.

3. NBC, of all people, caught that one

and skewered him with it right after the debate, running their file footage of Cheney saying there was such a link.

Sometimes I guess even the whore media get a lie that's a little too disgusting for them to swallow
