How can you tell such a stinker of a lie and not think people will notice?
I just don't get it!

From Factcheck.org:

Cheney claimed Edwards has such a poor attendance record in the Senate that he was just meeting Edwards for the first time during the debate, even though Cheney visits the Senate every Tuesday. But the Kerry-Edwards campaign quickly documented at least two instances in which Cheney had met Edwards previously. Edwards escorted Elizabeth Dole when she was sworn in as North Carolina's other senator on January 8, 2003, according to Gannet News Service. Cheney administered the oath.

Cheney also was present with Edwards at a National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 1, 2001, when a transcript shows Cheney acknowledged Edwards among those at the gathering:

Cheney: (Feb. 1, 2001): Thank you. Thank you very much. Congressman Watts, Senator Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I are honored to be with you all this morning.

rich, ripe beauty of it all is that not only did he lie, he sent listeners early to factcheck which is discrediting him around the barn and back. By the time Jon Stewart and Leno and Maher get done with it, No one will be thinking "gravitas" they''ll be thinking "Dumb fat ass who overplayed his hand..." Ahh hubris--it'll get you every time...

15. Wasn't this also in the context of Fat-ass reply to the charge of being a
"divider, not a uniter?" The reason this is important is because we NOW have found out that Stent ONLY meets with Repugs at The Senate and we know that one Dem he met with he's quoted as being a uniter by saying..... "F*ck-you, Senater Leahy.

4. We need to pound this home
Cheney is a liar.

Cheney is careless.

Cheney's office didn't even bother to fact check this clearly pre-planned ambush.

Cheney's Lloyd Bentson moment has blown up in his face.

5. Because you don't pay attention to the little people (i.e. anyone but...
... big time businessmen and Republican politicians).

Also because you're so cocky, and you're getting a little desperate when Edwards nails you with a barb.

The few times Cheney has even allowed himself in a room with Democratic members of Congress, you think he'd remember some first-term senator from a southern state? He reportedly meets weekly with the Republican leadership, however. Accd'g to Sen. Patrick Leahy (D), every other VP prior to Cheney has regularly met with BOTH parties' Congressional delegations.

This attempt at attacking Edwards has backfired on Cheney in more ways than one. It is an easily proven and blatant lie. And it demonstrates him to be a poor leader, and a blatantly partisan one at that.

8. that's my point - if the truth is so easily revealed, why throw
that out there? Geez, I think Sean Insanity's head will twist off trying to spin this one.

Also, I think in the law (trial lawyers anyone?) there is an instruction to the jury that if you find ONE THING a person says to be a lie, you are entitled to discount their entire testimony. I think we should throw out his entire testimony - this was not a misstatement, it was a blatant lie.

11. What I'm saying, though, is Cheney really believed it. He is so cocky...
... and partisan, that I don't think he ever remembered meeting Edwards. Edwards was just a "little guy" that didn't merit his attention, and obviously didn't get it.

This was something Cheney probably personally came up with and kept up his sleeve as a supposed "zinger". His arrogance made it impossible for him to even consider checking it. He trusted his own memory. Not that THAT would be clouded by any partisan outlook, though...

16. and here I thought the reason was because he thinks the
rest of us are so stupid, we believe anything he and the shrub tell us.

Excellent point, BTW. Now that you mention it, I do beleive he probably did walk off that stage thinking he had his soundbite nailed.

6. This is nothing. NBC skewered him last night
on his "I never said Iraq was connected to Al Qaeda" lie right after the debate, showing film of him saying exactly that. NBC!!!!

That had to be one of the bigger whoppers of the night. Saying he hadn't met Edwards isn't that big a deal, as even if you're in the same room with someone and acknowledge him in a speech, it doesn't mean you've met the man.

There were bigger and more important whoppers jumping out of Cheney's mouth last night like so many toads. Concentrate on them.

10. I agree - but it was said to be insulting and Cheney clearly
implied they had never been in the same room before last night. It stinks because it was a personal attack meant to make Edwards look bad.

14. True, but
they sat next to each other at that prayer breakfast for over two hours and, apparently, talked about policy. That's on another thread, sorry. Hard for me to keep up this morning!

Still getting a kick out of Dick at a prayer breakfast. Was he the visual aid for a 'Before'?!

7. They successfully lied to get the US into Iraq so what is one more?
It is a pattern with Cheney and Shrub, if you tell the lie, the faithful will believe it. If you tell it enough then it must be true

9. Cheney isn't comfortable with the truth.
He is a compulsive lier and can't seem to break himself of the habit. For him it's no big deal. He's casual and comfortable with it.
