Why no mention of Edwards revealing Cheney's horrific voting record? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 11:45 AM by glarius
Edwards said, "the vice president, I'm surprised to hear him talk about records. When he was one of 435 members of the United States House, he was one of 10 to vote against Head Start, one of four to vote against banning plastic weapons that can pass through metal detectors. He voted against the Department of Education. He voted against funding for Meals on Wheels for seniors. He voted against a holiday for Martin Luther King. He voted against a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela in South Africa. It's amazing to hear him criticize either my record or John Kerry's." This to me was a very powerful and telling comment by Edwards...The talking heads seem to be avoiding mentioning this at all....Hmmmmm...
P.S...I have to emphasize...Cheney's voting record is DEVASTATING!

1. The "heads" may not be talking . . . |
|
. . . but I've heard several friends say that that comment was very important to them.

2. A friend of mine's father. . . |
|
A friend of mine's father is a Bush supporter (we try not to talk about it much in public) and his family is black, which is highly relevant to the story. According to him, when Edwards mentioned Cheney voting against the holiday for Martin Luther King, my friend's father actually leaned up out of his chair and said (apparently, very loudly), "He did WHAT?"
I'm really glad Edwards brought that up. And I'm glad he waited for Cheney go introduce voting records. No doubt Edwards knew he would, and had those bits if info prepped. He knew Cheney was going to hit him on his record, and he readied a far more effective counterpunch.
Now, in the aftermath, most people only remember the counterpunch.

3. voting against release of Mandela needs to be brought up over and over |
|
Tell all your friends and acquantainces. Then tell them again.
It should be talking point number two about last nights debate, after Cheney lying about not having not met Edwards previously.
Cheney can lie about not having met Edwards before, but he can not lie about having voted against Mandela's release.

4. Anyone have Cheney's attendance record? |
|
Didn't see it on vote-smart.org. Since Cheney basically lied about Edwards' attendance record last night, I figure it's fair game.
Incidentally, here's Edwards' info:
Year Voting Party Presidential Participation Support Support 2003 61% 97% 41% 2002 100% 84% 76% 2001 99% 91% 67% 2000 100% 94% 92% 1999 99% 92% 87%
Unfortunately, no info on meeting attendance.
