Think how awful Gephardt would have been last night. |

5. He would not have rolled over like Lieberman did in 2000. |
|
I'm no Gebhart fan, but he is at least a fighter. Lieberman was unfortunately Cheney's pal.

6. Gep would have done fine. |
|
And Edwards did great. What is the point of slamming Gep. One thing he might have done is throw a bone to labor by mentioning fair trade, which has yet to be mentioned at any debate.

7. Gephardt would have been great |
|
He certainly would have come across as more serious and more experienced than Edwards. Thank goodness that Kerry is at the top of the ticket and not Edwards.
If Kerry does better than Bush on Friday, I think we can start "closing the deal". :toast:

8. Don't take this the wrong way |
|
Because I'm 100% behind our ticket and I think Edwards did a fine job last night, much better even than I expected. And I expected a lot from him.
But, I have to admit, there were times in the debate last night that I would have LOVED to have seen Wes Clark debating Dick Cheney. Yes, Edwards is a better speaker than Clark, but DickFourDefermentCheney's "we're the only ones who know how to be tough" act would have looked silly as he sat next to a four-star general.
I understand Edwards being picked as the VP nominee and fully supported it. I just hope there's a place in Kerry's administration for Wes Clark. He's worked his ass off for the Democrats and he's too talented and experienced to sit on the sidelines. He wants to serve.

So I say your speculation is a "miserable failure"

but he wasn't the best matchup against Cheney in this situation.
Gep and other senior dems, especially ones that are capable of getting down and dirty, would have been a better matchup.
But Edwards is almost a rookie, it's pretty scary thinking of how great he's going to be after he has 8 years more experience as V.P.

but I think, with less than a month to the election, this thread is unecessary and divisive.
