From Factcheck.org (DailyKOS.com clip)
FYI:

And from the real www.FactCheck.org:

Cheney got our domain name wrong -- calling us "FactCheck.com" -- and wrongly implied that we had rebutted allegations Edwards was making about what Cheney had done as chief executive officer of Halliburton. In fact, we did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right.

The only reason this debate was even close was because Cheney could simply invent "facts" out of thin air. If Cheney was limited to the truth, it wouldn't have been close. The Bush/Cheney administration simply cannot defend its record.

2. WOO HOO!!! I hope fc keeps it pinned to the top of their site
for the rest of the week. I don't think they took too kindly to having Dick misrepresent them. They've worked hard to be non-partisan and check facts.

More egg on B/C face! I love it!!!

5. Yeah I noticed the .com
goof, but immediately thought that it wouldn't necessarily help Cheney's cause. Perhaps a few more will be enlightened. Thanks for what you do.

9. That's hysterical!
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 12:26 PM by Greyskye
I noticed that he probably had the url wrong, but I wanted to see what the .com site was that he was sending people to. It was definitely not linked to the Soros site that is now there.

You're right, that was really fast work!

11. The second paragraph there is from Daily Kos,
not Factcheck.org. I wish it were from Factcheck.org, since it would be what Cheney deserves, but if you check http://www.dailykos.com/ for "My Favorite Moment in the Debate" you'll see that the paragraph beginning "The only reason this debate was even close" was Kos's comment.

The Factcheck.org article on the debate is at http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=272 and it criticizes both Cheney and Edwards.

Sorry -- I wish they had come down harder on Cheney...

12. Actually, Factcheck.org is more critical of Cheney than Edwards
I'd skimmed the article too quickly before posting that last message.

13. I've been promoting factcheck.org on DU recently prior to the debate...
so my interest was peaked when Cheney mentioned it (albeit with the wrong suffix).

Right after the debate, I went to factcheck.com and saw that it was a dead site. 1 1/2 hours later, I checked back and it had been redirected toward georgesoros.com

Funnily enough, if you do check out factcheck.org (the real one) you will see that it by and large has more lies to debunk coming from b/c than from j/e. Cheney is a dumbass to rec'd anyone go there, it debunks many of the Bush-camp spins as well as the sbvt lies and slimey-smears about Kerry's wife.

Factcheck.org is a good site in my opinion and DU'ers should know it well and use it to help be informed/thunk freeps on the head.

However, today, I can't get to it so I wonder if freeps somehow hacked/jammed it. Can anyone else get in?

14. Just keep refreshing the page
It took multiple tries on both the main page and the page for the article on the debate -- http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=272 -- but I was able to reach both pages in less than a dozen tries for each.

16. Maybe Cheney started mentioning "Factcheck.org"
But he stopped himself, mid-URL, realizing that there was too much damaging information on the site, and replaced the "ORG" with a "COM".

17. Hey, did anyone else notice this bit on georgesoros.com?
"We do not own the FactCheck.com domain name and are not responsible for it redirecting to GeorgeSoros.com. We are as surprised as anyone by this turn of events. We believe that Vice President Cheney intended to direct viewers of the Vice-Presidential Debate to FactCheck.org. "

It's on the main page, in the upper left-hand corner.
