Edwards' missed opportunity: "What qualifies you to be a heartbeat away?"
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 02:08 PM by Stephanie

Correct Answer:

Edwards - "Gwen, in contrast to my opponent, I actually HAVE a beating heart."

Edwards' actual answer:

IFILL: OK, we'll move on. This goes to you, Senator Edwards, and you have two minutes. Ten men and women have been nominees of their parties since 1976 to be vice president. Out of those ten, you have the least governmental experience of any of them.

What qualifies you to be a heartbeat away?

EDWARDS: The American people want in their president and in their vice president basically three things: They want to know that their president and their vice president will keep them safe. They want to know that they have good judgment. And they want to know that you'll tell them the truth. John Kerry and I will tell the American people the truth.

1. Yeah, I couldn't beleive he let that one go by
I would have said something like that myself.

Like, first of all Gwen, my heart is pretty healthy. I had a physical just a little while ago and got a fine bill of health.

Oh, I'm sorry. You meant something else?

and then roll into the "a long resume didn't prevent their mistakes"

I also would have mentioned that right now, Edwards has more experience with the Federal Government than Bush did when he was put into office by the Supreme Court.

Then I'd say...

Ah, probably better I wasn't up there...

3. Was thinking the same - actually yelled at the television

Bush had NO experience before being President. Gov of Texas isn't even close!
