Why did Cheney send us to Soros' site?
While defending crooked oil, Jabba the Hutt said that "factcheck.com" would strike down all charges. First of all, what kind of defense is that?! Secondly, why is he advertising George Soros' webpage? I guess he really is that clueless. ;)

9. Pretty stupid on Dick Cheney's part, but then the site also...
...had a back-up plan apparently and to relieve the traffic and obviously save having to pay the cost of this blunder on Dick Cheney's part the University site immediately has the inquiries forwarded to George Soras not to the actual site Cheney meant.:wtf:

So, if someone wants to drive a person into bankruptcy while asking a web server company very rich, all you have to do is forward hits on your site to some other site? This can be accomplished without the other site knowing or giving their authorization? I don't get it. Why not bill Dick Cheney or the GOP?

7. I'm getting the idea that these boys don't know how to play the new game.
They forgot to factor in the internet and the more-informed electorate and this has caused them lots of problems so far.

Then, when they tried to play on the new field, their inexperience caused yet another problem. It's so funny.

8. Because the real site, factcheck.org, was too damaging to Bushco.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 04:07 PM by gbwarming
He knew that if people checked out http://www.factcheck.org/ they would find out that EVERYTHING John Edwards said about Halliburton is TRUE. He simply HAD to divert us

Edit: sorry about the dupe to post 5.

15. So how many hits did George Soros' site recieve...
...and what is the potential cost to Soros?

If he got 60 million hits more than normal and the site manager charges $.10 per hit that amounts to $6 million more than Soros would normally pay. Who is liable for that? It is still going to the Soros site? Why is that?

fastcheck.org is nothing but an advertising site: <snip>

FastCheck lets you check your FastMail.FM mailbox in the background and notifies you when you receive new mails. Its main features are:

<link> http://fastcheck.org/

It contains nothing to backup Cheney's claims and certainly has no facts. So Cheney was just blowing more smoke up the American voters asses!

17. Soros Was Ready for Heavy Traffic
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 12:06 PM by JPZenger
A couple days before, George Soros has just paid for paid ads covering 2 full pages in major newspapers, including the Philadelphia Inquirer. Those ads directed people to www.georgesoros.com. He was prepared for many hits. It just so happens that www.factcheck.com's Philadelphia lawyer had seen that ad and suggested the traffic be re-directed to it. They knew that Soros could afford the bandwidth fees from so many new hits. Soros said "we were as surprised as anyone."

that he was trying to rebut an accusation that Edwards (cleverly, IMO) did not even make. Basically, Cheney the Foulmouthed Dick had overprepared and jumped the gun.

After the K-B debate, one point raised by factcheck.org was that the K/E campaign was incorrect when they implied that Cheney was profiting directly from Halliburton's Iraq contracts. Factcheck's point was that the $MM's that Oily Dick has rec'd from Halliburton since 2001 are the result of deferred compensation from his pre-selection tenure there and are not contingent on how Halliburton is doing financially.

But that wasn't the point Edwards made in the debate. He merely alluded to the no-bids, essentially implying cronyism but not suggesting that Crashcart actually had a vested financial interest.

.org vs .com is an easy mistake to make. Funny, absolutely. But even those (like myself, who didn't catch the gaffe and understood that he meant .org) who would hit the correct site would actually see a much more damaging factchecking on BC04 than on K-E.
