... and on the top of the Google news page:

Cheney directs surfers to anti-Bush site
VP's incorrect Web address redirects traffic to a George Soros page lambasting President Bush.
October 6, 2004: 6:10 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Vice President Dick Cheney told viewers Tuesday night they could verify his claims from the vice-presidential debate at an independent Web site -- www.factcheck.com -- but visitors to the site found a searing anti-Bush message.

Cheney accidentally said ".com" instead of ".org" during the televised debate. Internet surfers who visited factcheck.com were redirected to the home page of billionaire anti-Bush activist George Soros, with the statement "Why we must not re-elect President Bush" at the top of the screen.

The Soros site also claims "President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests, and undermining American values."

The Web site Cheney had apparently meant to shuttle viewers to is: www.factcheck.org, run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The site www.factcheck.com has no connection to Soros; it was simply redirecting traffic to his site.

Factcheck.com is owned by Name Administration Inc., a Cayman Islands company that acquires Web domain names and makes money off the traffic by redirecting surfers to text ads, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

8. Disclaimer on Soro's site
" We do not own the FactCheck.com domain name and are not responsible for it redirecting to GeorgeSoros.com. We are as surprised as anyone by this turn of events. We believe that Vice President Cheney intended to direct viewers of the Vice-Presidential Debate to FactCheck.org."

But we're glad you bushies all visited

13. HA! I think Cheney was expecting that Hellaburnin topic to be about
his deferred salary, which was "debunked" on factcheck.org, you could tell by that smug grin on his face when he heard Edwards say Halliburton. Instead Edwards went for the why isn't their pay being held back while under investigation. That's when you saw the twinkle in Dick's eye go out, he grimaced and mumbled his "canned" answer to his expected Halliburton deferred salary charge. He couldn't come up with any other rebuttal!

It was priceless!

You are correct that the media should be all over Edward's claims. Getting around the sanctions was one of the reasons for them buying Dresser. I believe it was the French pump division they wanted to be able to sell to Saddam.

Cheney Slip Sends Surfers to Wrong Site

1 hour, 27 minutes ago

By EMILY FREDRIX, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - All he wanted were the facts. But Dick Cheney (news - web sites) ended up generating confusion_ and lots of it.

A slip of the tongue by the vice president during Tuesday night's debate with Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) led Web surfers to a site run by George Soros, a billionaire who makes no secret of his opposition to the Bush administration.

In answering a question about his involvement with Halliburton, Cheney meant to direct people to FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan site run by the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center. He urged people watching the debate to go to the site for facts countering Edwards' statements about the corporation Cheney used to run.

But Cheney cited FactCheck.com, a for-profit advertising site based in the Cayman Islands.

The company decided to redirect traffic to the Soros site after it became inundated with hits — about 100 a second after the debate, John Berryhill, a Philadelphia lawyer for FactCheck.com, said Wednesday.
