The Andrea Mitchell Cheney-put-Edwards-in-his-place thing. |
|
I wasn't watching. Did you watch her say that?
It sounds completely inappropriate for a journalist.

Dick Cheney was Dick Cheney last night and that's not a good thing. He's only got a mid 30's approval rating so playing himself just reinforces what people don't like about him.

4. She said "Cheney really put Edward in his place |
|
when he said tonight was the first time met Edwards." Absolutely inexcusable that this kind of statement would not only be accepted at face value, but actually used as evidence toward Cheney winning the debate. These people are no longer required to think. Television news has become such crap. Can you imagine David Brinkley or Walter Cronkite talking like this? It really is a disgrace.
Note: Giving credit where credit is due, Candy Crowley was actually rather honest last night.

Not only is this the worst kind of stupid whoring, it's totally incorrect, with video tape to prove it.
But whaddya expect from her, anyways? I refuse to watch some people, and she is one of them. Fortunately, most people aren't watching her or Matthews either.

dumbshit found out ..he met Edwards not once but at least THREE TIMES! "Cheney Lies About Meeting Edwards for the First Time America is FINALLY waking up to the fact that the Repugs' chief strategy in everything they undertake is to LIE, LIE, LIE. Tues. night was no different: AP: "Cheney said Tuesday night that the debate with Democratic Sen. John Edwards marked the first time they had met. In fact, the two had met at least three times previously. Cheney made the remark while accusing Edwards of frequent absences from Senate votes." But, "On Feb. 1, 2001, thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast and sat beside him during the event. On April 8, 2001, Cheney and Edwards shook hands when they met off-camera during a taping of NBC's 'Meet the Press,' moderator Tim Russert said Wednesday on 'Today.' On Jan. 8, 2003, the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied Elizabeth Dole to her swearing-in by Cheney as a North Carolina senator, Edwards aides also said." Do these creeps EVER tell the truth about ANYTHING?From http://www.democrats.com

That was what she said verbatim. Scarborough piled on, the other guy piled on and Ron Reagan was trying to take the middle of the road.
I guess Reagan is there to balance Scarborough, but he's more of a centrist critical of Bush, so sometimes it feels like that panel is going way off to the right.

11. What she actually said . . . |
|
FROM THE TRANSCRIPT:
ANDREA MITCHELL, NBC CHIEF FOREIGN AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT: I think Dick Cheney did awfully well at, first of all, putting John Edwards in his place, saying that I have been presiding over the Senate and I didn't meet you until tonight. Talking about his not having been on the job was pretty devastating.
MATTHEWS: Not only is he new to politics. He is late to politics.
(LAUGHTER)
I bet they're not laughing today.

15. YES...she said it. Odd thing is: She hosted Russert's "MTP" Show when |
|
he was on vacation and was better than Russert. Fair to both Dems and Repugs...asked interesting questions and had better video to back up her questions. Those of us on DU who saw her that morning were thinking we should e-mail NBC and ask her to replace Russert...Go figure?
I think MSNBC got a big bag of "pay money" last night that they were so off the call in Edwards/Cheney debate. Maybe it's like the old horse racing where the "bookie" was "in" with the trainer/owner and they would pay the Jockey to "throw the race."
It was bizarre on MSNBC/NBC last night. But...Andrea's Sugar Daddy is "Greenspeak" so maybe HE called the shots?

17. It went something like this |
|
Matthews was practically pissing all over the MSNBC set when the debate ended, in a frantic rush to slobber praise on Cheney. He opened with something like, "I think we can immediately agree on the result of this debate, a clear winner. Andrea Mitchell, as a journalist, a political analyst, what is your assessment of what we saw tonight?"
She immediately said, "This was a very impressive performance by Dick Cheney," or very close to that. Followed shortly by the "put him in his place" crap. Matthews finally appeared onscreen and was absolutely beaming, completely reverse of his stunned energyless opening after Kerry/Bush. Scarborough piped in last night with a loud verdict that Cheney had dominated in the same fashion as Kerry, with the magazine guy basically echoing him and Ron Reagan not provoding much counter.
I was flabbergasted. Eleven people, mostly undecided, watched the debate with me and we had it 8-4 Edwards, including my vote. The women didn't think it was close, especially the last 45 minutes during domestic issues when Cheney either dodged the questions or had no enthusiasm, or both.

21. Andrea Mitchell was the reporter |
|
on the very first of many lies told by this admin. I remember her breathless reporting of the Clintons trashing the WH/stealing things from AF 1, citing White House sources. The story prove false but she never retracted it, and neither did NBC. I emailed Russert about it and demanded in the name of fariness she reveal the source that flat out lied to her, but of course got no response. These people have no shame.

27. Prove to your undecided friends that the media has right-wing bias |
|
Andrea Mitchell has plenty of company in presenting this surreal version of reality that lets Bush get away with harming 99% of the American people. See www.carefulvoter.org for a strong argument to convince your undecided and persuadable friends that what they're seeing on TV is heavily slanted to the right.

29. She shoudn't be punditing on the debates in the first place! |
|
I only care what she thinks insofar as she becomes part of the news by affecting it.
However, what expertise does she have to make such a judgement? Clearly her opinion was wrong (in view of Cheney's lie) and she gives up her objectivity when she talks like this, which makes her other reporting suspect.
Can't they get newsmakers and not newshounds to do the punditry. I'm sick of hearing what journalists think about anything. A journalist should report the news, they should report what they hear, what experts say and what happened. Who "won" the debate is not "what happened" unless someone other than the journalist says so and that should be borne out by expertise from academics, political strategists (who have some credibility).
Besides, we have seen how poor a job the moderators (all journalists) have done forming questions. My take is, okay, let them moderate, but let the experts form the questions and follow-ups. My problem is that the journalists just don't ask good questions anymore. Gwen Ifill was horrendous. What was the weird question where she said not to include the name of your running mate in the answer --absolute garbage that actually made the answer harder to understand. Atrocious!
