Congressman Vito Fossella (R-NY) joked that it must be because Bill Clinton was shocked at how great the Republican Convention was?

I just donated $75 to his opponent, who is trailing by six points.

His opponent is Democrat Frank Barbaro.

. . . I'll tell you a bit about NY-13. Part of it is in Brooklyn and part of it is in Staten Island. Very working class/middle class Italian, some hispanics and blacks now. They vote for Fossella on crime and social issues, but they are with Barbaro on economic issues. Like my neighborhood they took a hit on 9/11 and lost some people. Barbaro is an ex-longshoreman who ran for mayor v. Koch, then became a tiral judge - he's a real character, progressive, very scrappy and tough, unlike "suave" Vito. I'm going to an event for him Sunday.
