Join the Kerry Phone Corp. Help get 1,00,0000 canvassers on the streets!
Yesterday was amazing! The Phone Corps recruited several hundred new members and made a record 10,000 calls in one night. Democratic campaign field staff in battleground states are relying on the Phone Corps to help reach their million-door goal for this Saturday's door-to-door canvasses in swing states.

Please keep calling today:

Right now we're calling Ohio and Colorado. Both of these states have great canvass operations, and are doing a great job of training and using volunteers.

Every night this week, we'll be calling one or two states. The Phone Corps is making an incredible number of calls, but to help the state coordinated campaigns reach their goal of one million doors this Saturday, we need even more people.

Ask your friends to join the Phone Corps by forwarding this e-mail and asking them to click here:

2. It is really a lot of fun
talking to Kerry supporters in the swing states. I'm calling from MT and have signed up twenty + people to go out on local canvasses in thier areas.

I also sometime tell folks to check out DU.

3. I started street canvassing on my own in SW Ohio 5 weeks ago
It's fun and so much easier than phone calls where you don't know if the person was asleep, busy or in the shower.

I work downtown and use my lunch hour everyday to talk to likely democratic voters at the bus stop, in front of temporary labor places, or just walking down the street. the TWO-FACED graphic is a great way to break the ice.

Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to download high resolution TIF or PDF file to print and distribute everywhere. Utility poles, bus stops, bulletin boards, newspaper racks, car windshields, phone booths, etc. Guerilla marketers needed to create MAXIMUM BUZZ!

4. I'm not sure if you understand what the Kerry Phone Corp does.
rosebud57. And I'm not sure if I understand what you are doing.

We call already identified Kerry supporters in swing states from the red and blue states (i'm from Montana, which is red) and ask them to turn out to organized local canvasses where they go door to door and every Kerry supporter found at the door gets entered into a data base so that the local Dem party can make sure that the person actually gets to the polls on election day.

The canvassers don't just say "Vote for Kerry," have a nice day, but actually records the voter data (name address phone #) so on Nov 2 the swing state GOTV effort can offer rides, childcare, encouragement, and support to get those voters to the polls.

One advatage of canvassing by neighborhood is you can corralate the voter information to the precinct they vote at.

Do you keep your own data base or do you turn the names, address phone# of the Kerry supporters you talk to over to the Dems or Move-on or some other GOTV group that insures the folks you talk to actually show up at the polls?

Your method sounds great as long as the information gets to where it translates into actual votes at the ballot box. If not, what you are doing is still a good thing but not nearly as effective in winning close elections.

I figure right now today more people support Kerry than Bush, but if we can't insure those people get to the polls on nov.2 it doesn't send Bush back to Crawford

6. I realize and appreciate what phone bankers do
I am reaching a segment of likely democratic voters who historically have low voting rates, by reaching out to innercity low income people. I am suited for this type of canvassing because I am fearless in this environment and I mix well with innercity people. While my method may not be quantifiable, I do seek to motivate by educating. I reassure low income people that we are going to protect the vote, and that we must not allow bad poll numbers to dissuade us from voting, as the polls do not reflect the surge in new voter registrations. By inititiating conversation on this election, I have found that the conversation continues as I move on to the next group of people on the street. These are not people that phone bankers have in their database. Many will be first time voters. I also spend significant time and resources in innercity barber shops.

I have also worked with VoteMob and am familiar with the vote pledges that allow VoteMob staff to track results. In my own precinct I have done the type of work you are doing. This approach does not lend itself as well to the demographic I am targeting. I am literally working with some of the poorest newly registered or unlikey voters in SW Ohio. While I cannot guarantee they will follow through I do believe they will remember not only the conversations we have on the street corner, but also the belief and commitment that this is the most important election of our lifetimes. The people I talk to are amused, amazed and thankful that I am doing this work.

7. I am thankful you are doing this work too
Everyone who cares enough to do something is important and is a part of taking back our country from this radical and extremist regime we now have in office.

I am working to get those who live in red and blue states involved in the battle of the swing states by calling up Kerry supporters and organizing those supporters to walk precincts, do voter ed, voterID and to feed that into the GOTV effort. The Kerry Phome Corp. makes it easy for people to do this from thier own homes.

If I could travel to a swing state and canvass, I would, but I have kids in school and can't. So I am doing what I can do.

8. The really cool thing about my street canvassing in SW Ohio
is because I work in the Central Business District which is surrounded by the innercity I am able to canvass during my hour lunch break.

I also drive through the innercity on my way home to my urban campus area home and it is really easy to jump out of my car to hang some flyers and talk to a few people hanging on the corner or waiting for a bus. By hanging TWO-FACED on utility poles at busy intersections I am able to speak to the base and confront the white flight suburbanites with the reality of our hatred.

I incorporate canvassing during my everyday activities. On the way to the convenience store to pick up a pint of icecream I glued the TWO-FACED graphic to the dumpster in the store parking lot.
