I decided I needed to find the quote in context, because a friend of mine said the quote was meaningless without it. She doesn't like it when Kerry is taken out of context, and so she figures it's not honest to do the same to Bush.
And so I went looking for the whole enchilada. Rather glad I did actually. The whole quote is even worse than that one part.
From the March 13th 2002 press conference:
"So I don't know where he is. Nor -- you know, I just don't spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you. I'm more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well supplied, that the strategy is clear, that the coalition is strong, that when we find enemy bunched up, like we did in Shah-e-Kot mountains, that the military has all the support it needs to go in and do the job, which they did."
Let's look at that quote in pieces, shall we?
"I'm more worried about making sure that our soldiers are well supplied..." -- they weren't.
"...that the strategy is clear..." -- it wasn't.
"...that the coalition is strong..." -- again, it wasn't.
"that when we find enemy bunched up, like we did in Shah-e-Kot mountains, that the military has all the support it needs to go in and do the job, which they did." -- too bad we didn't also have that support in Tora Bora.
I'm not even sure we had it in Shah-e-Ket. I'd have to go and see how that turned out. I don't take anything this administration says as gospel, as you can well imagine.
Here's a link to the whole transcript, in case anyone ever needs more ammo.
