Debate #2: Kill The Compassionate Conservative Meme.
On Friday night I'd like to see Kerry dismantle the bullshit about Bush being a compassionate conservative. In his speech yesterday bush brought back that hoary old chestnut. It's even easier now to destroy that talking point than it was in 2000. Millions more without medical insurance, a drug benefit that lines the pockets of insurance companies, the attempt to undermine overtime pay rules and what else? Smash to smithereens the uniter not a divider garbage. Most of all, showcase the twerp's abundant stupidity. As McGruder said, that's the elephant in the living room. The L.A. Times had a great piece on Bush's lack of intellectual acuity. Kerry needs to do whatever he can to contrast his thoughtfulness with bush's paucity of smarts. Go Kerry, go!

2. Gee,
I just love being called stupid first thing in the morning....almost as much as I love non-responsive posts and the overuse of caps.

3. I don't think the poster was calling you stupid.
It was a reference to the old line from the 1992 campaign, "It's the economy, stupid."

4. We have a golden opportunity
to set in motion a gigantic electoral realignment. Cali's points are brilliant and I hope Kerry can execute them deftly and at the same time disillusion voters of the main tenets of modern Republicanism as a whole.

An old book by historian and Kennedy aide Arthur Schlesinger called Cycles of American Politics points to periodic shifts in the electorate every 20 or 25 years between favoring "public interest" and "private interest." We are ripe for a shift right now. With the utter failure of governance we are now experiencing, Kerry could conceivably overcome the corporate media bias and lead us into the next cycle.

He must tar the entire right wing with the failures of bush*. Kerry can do this if he's skillful and lucky. And he's been pretty lucky lately. As another DUer posted on another thread, he's like a fisherman who finds the fish jumping into his boat. And the right wing's boat is sinking fast!

6. Well, thanks
but I sure wouldn't call my remarks brilliant. They seem pretty elementary to me. I do agree with you that we're ripe for a shift of the zeitgueist (sp?) though. It feels as if, despite much of the rhetoric spewed to the the contrary, that we're on the verge of entering a new cycle. Kerry's been both lucky and skillful the last couple of weeks. He'll need both tonight.
