The lawyer for "Factcheck.com" was on AAR, and explained
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 09:11 AM by CatWoman
how Factcheck traffic was rerouted to George Soros.

First off, Factcheck.com is an on-line education resource, offering information on how to get online diplomas, dictionaries, etc. The owners of that site reside in the Cayman Islands.

Their webmaster noticed a tremendous spike in traffic/hits 10 minutes after Cheney sent viewers there Tuesday night.

The Factcheck people tracked the source of the increased traffic to no other than "Freerepublic.com". They had posted a thread sending their minions there.

The lawyer talked to his clients, and they resented being used by the Republicans -- even inadvertedly. They also didn't want to pay for all that extra traffic. So they decided to reroute the traffic to Soros' home page, as paying for the extra traffic wouldn't bother him, and they could make a political statement at the same time.

The lawyer was a very funny guy -- he referred to Freerepublic as "Freerepulsive.com"

:D

12. Just think what would have happened if Bushtried to give out the website.
Bush..... "Remember, that's Fatchick.com"

Don't even want to THINK about going there.

HA HA HA, that's great. So glad those guys ended up being on our side, what a fantastic coup. You just know that a bunch of freep types waited until they got in to work to get online and by then the redirect was up & running. Heheheh

8. This Is My Favorite Story Of The Campaign!
Oh the fickle fingers of fate! Ha Ha! The whole episode is just so ironically delicious and poetically just that it had to be real because no one could have ever conceived of something like this actually happening.

MMMMMMMMMM Irony....

16. as I said, I heard it on the radio this morning
however, there's a story in today's Post:

Evidently, Cheney meant to say FactCheck.org a site run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Instead, he directed the nation's attention to a Web site that refers people to sellers of dictionaries and encyclopedias -- at least at first. The company behind the site, Cayman Islands-based Name Administration Inc., which also owns sites such as Lipbalm.com and Antarctica.com, was quickly overwhelmed.

"Suddenly they had 48,000 hits in an hour, then 100 hits a second," said John Berryhill, a lawyer for the company. "They had a technical problem on their hands."

To avoid crashing, and to exact revenge on Cheney for causing it such grief, Name Administration decided to forward traffic to GeorgeSoros.com -- a site that could handle the traffic, was not soliciting funds and clearly wasn't tied to Bush. "And you got to admit it was kind of cute," Berryhill said.

Soros's Web site issued a statement saying it had nothing to do with the redirection of traffic. "We are as surprised as anyone," said Michael Vachon, Soros's chief of staff.

The Puggies have nothing to bitch about.
It was Cheney's error, and .com accommodated those who got there because of that error.

32. I recommend FR but not DU.

Evil DUers may not be All Stars in the League of Ugliness that Freepers are, but a good number here do try. For that reason I would never send most folk to DU. But I gleefully send them to FR. A conservative-in-the-know who hangs out in the same bar as me absolutely hates it when I do that. He's smart enough to know just how awful FR makes his side look.

35. Doesn't this administration remind you of Barney Fife?
(apologizes to the Barnmeister!). They have one bullet and yet they are constantly in danger of shooting themselves in the foot.

Evil Dick probably only had one little nugget of information about the Internet fed to him by the GOP staffers and he managed to turn it into a three day news event of free publicity for a site that tells everyone not to vote for Bush. Think Evil Dick should get this week's "Stupid Is as Stupid Does" award. That's good for free one way trip to beautiful downtown Fallujah without armor escort. Let's hear it for Dickie!

i wonder if this will turn into the grocery scanner as kryptonite to Bush I's campaign.

actually...let's do our best to make that happen!

you know..on second thought...not so much Barney Fife, who is eseentially good-hearted) but definitely more like...the villains on Scooby Doo.
