To the Editor:

Your account of the vice-presidential debate strongly suggests a view through Kerry-colored glasses ("The Running Mates Debate," editorial, Oct. 6).

Indeed, far from a grumpy old man, Dick Cheney appeared as experienced, informed, in control and highly intelligent - as someone "a heartbeat away" from the White House should be.

In sharp contrast, John Edwards appeared as attractive but jejune, an echoer of John Kerry.

To the Editor:

The debate on Tuesday night was really a debate between substance and fluff.

Dick Cheney spoke with clear, substantive responses that directly answered the questions. John Edwards "answered" questions with talking points and platitudes that often did not address the question at hand.

Dick Cheney sometimes repeated the questions asked him to ensure that he was answering the right one.

John Edwards used universal predetermined answers, no matter the question.

If you enjoy fluff, John Edwards won. But if you want substance and a clear understanding of the issues, Dick Cheney won by a landslide.

2. I KNOW Cheney lost!!!!

This is why REGARDLESS of what Cheney said, he lost. Even if he was BRILLIANT, he still lost.

The bottom line is that he had his chin buried in his chest all night. That makes people look shifty and deceptive OR it implies a lack of confidence.

4. Isn't it odd that these people praise Cheney for qualities
Bush is utterly lacking in? Doesn't this reveal the complete dishonesty or denial going on in Republicanland?

6. A question about Haliburton
I don't have enough posts to start a discussion, so I hope y'all don't hold it against me for piggybacking on this one.

Last night I got into my weekly argument with a conservative I know. We were talking about the vice presidential debate and he asked me what I thought of Haliburton. I of course told them that I thought they were another damn good reason to support socialism. Then he threw me a curve ball and I didn't know how to respond and I'm not sure where to look. He asked me if I knew of any other company that could do what Haliburton does and I don't.

So I need some help. Can anyone provide me with some info that details their operations in Iraq and any company that can do the same.

7. Why don't you go start another thread, "socialist?"
You can do what other "socialists" (national or other) at DU do. Go to the Lounge and post innocuous thoughts until you have enough to start your own thread here.
