WOOHOO NC's goin' BLUE!
On the local NPR station (Chapel Hill) they just reported that nearly 500,000 new voters have registered in NC, with the vast majority doing so since Monday!

I sure hope I heard them right!
Correct me if I'm wrong! (I _know_ y'all will!)

NC is a lot more progressive than most folks think.
Still determined to feel positive!!!!!

10. You have it wrong. Fluff. We've outregistered the GOP by at least 4-1.
And I've been taking calls at Dem HQ from plenty of Republicans asking for Kerry yard signs, especially since last Thursday.

You are welcome to your opinion, but the ground game in NC is looking towards a win in November.

36. Fluffdaddy, did you know that John Edwards kicked Lauch....
Faircloth's ass. The biggest redneck of them all.He bought his way in but he couldn't buy a re-election. He was an embarrassment to our state.George Bush is an embarrassment to the whole country.

North Carolina has a Democrat Governor who is very progressive and defiantly will be re-elected.The democrat party here in NC have been working their asses off for John Kerry and John Edwards so it didn't "just happen".
Even though I'm a democrat, you might all of us rednecks, but since you know so much about NC, you might better check your figures on us redneck "Tarheels".

32. I think you are right..
This probably has something to do with churches getting registrations piled up and then gang registering at the last minute so the dems are caught off guard regarding their numbers and what they have to match. I think it is a trick of the goopers.

40. You seem to think Republicans are like the Democrats in their
Apathy. I do not think that is the case. I believe Republicans are very determined and in lock-step and that they have been registered since they turned eighteen. They are not lackadaisical like the Democrats are. They are regimented and determined and by far the most likely to Turn-out for any and all elections. Anyone registering at this late date is very probably not a Republican. Because Republicans are notorious for their turn-out most all polls are weighted for that factor. Democrats are notorious for sitting at home feeling sorry for themselves and saying what good is my one lonely vote. I think things are starting to change a bit.

4. And remember, many polls don't count new voters.
Because they try to limit their polling to people "likely" to vote. And that generally means people who vote every year, or at least in every Presidential election.

7. Bush won North Carolina by 370,000+ votes in 2000
So the new voters would likely need to be overwhelmingly Democratic to close that gap.

That should win some votes from people who voted for him last election as well as winning undecideds and energizing people who are registered but wouldn't normally vote.

then Kerry should logically be leading by a lot more in the "close" Gore states of Wisconsin, NM, etc...
The dynamics of 2000 don't translate directly into a duplicate for 2004.

39. Admittedly, I'm a little skeptical of a state which elected Jesse Helms...
...again and again for decades.

But it IS Edwards' home turf. And God knows that despite the rhetoric of the religious reich types, Southerners have absolutely no logical reason to support the Bush Criminal Empire. Especially since the majority of the military, and logically, by extention military casualties, come from Southern states.

as you pointed out, so if the Dems in the cities (Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill Greensboro Winston-Salem Charlotte Asheville) turn out in high numbers, then the more rural areas (which tend to vote strictly Repub) will be beaten.

Lex, I also think that the military/vet vote in & around Fayetteville, Goldsboro and (maybe even) J'ville will provide a few surprises, too. And let's not forget the college-aged population (where I believe a lot of the GOTV activity is taking place?) and their parents.

Helms and co. invented pac money. He was a national hero among repugs.
So the national repugs bowed to "Senator No". He had all the money in the national repugs coffers to be re-elected.However, Faircloth, one of the wealthiest repugs in NC, couldn't even buy his re-election against Edwards.
