Can our press be more stupid?
I am watching the MTP roundtable. Participats include Russert, Broder, Mr. Todd from Hotline, Roger Simon (US News World Report), and Brownstein from the LA Times. Featured are discussions about the differences between Gephardt's and Dean's supporters. Try to believe that Broder said this. Gephardt's supporters are large union guys who intimidate people. Dean's are female, gay, and small. They also will wear sandles (in 25 degree Iowa). Brownstein laughed at the idea of the supporters meeting and Dean's supporters getting beaten up. Can we go any lower?

It gets worse. Now Dean's supporters are, no I am not making this up, basement dwelling people who have to move Burger King wrappers to go out for Dean, which they normally wouldn't do. (Roger Simon)

Plus Mr. Todd, from the Hotline lied to our faces. He started in on how anti press the blog is. So far true. He then said Myers was being criticised for taking Dean comments out of context again true. But then he and Russert said Myers hadn't done that and that the campaign agreed. Flat out false. The Iowa caucus comments were out of context. The campaign says so.

2. I heard the BK reference...
and thought how can anyone say such a dumbassed thing and actually seem proud of it. Whoever the Democratic candidate is, he might as well prepare for a combative press corp.

10. The campaign is collecting supporter response
to the ad, on the blog.

http://blog.deanforamerica.com/archives/003027.html

In the previous post we asked you to respond to the latest drivel dripping from the Club for Growth by telling us who you really are. We've got some great responses, and we just had to post this one from Marc Montefusco of Middletown, Maryland, right away. Keep up the great ideas. Post them in the thread or send them to us at blog@deanforamerica.com.

4. They embrace the status quo
and any threat to it is ridiculed and attacked. It is not important to these self-important louts that more people are getting involved in the political process, because they don't understand it and don't want to take the time to examine it. It's far easier to fall back on the same old jokes that have made our two parties irrelevent to our daily lives. It's far easier to retain control that way, insuring job security without expending too much effort learning new ways of doing things.

I swear our media couldn't be working any harder to make themselves obsolete.

6. I saw the segment, and thought it was enlightening. How were Dean's
comments taken out of context? What context was there?

And Chuck Todd as much as straight-shooter as you'll find in the press.

25. BTW Here is the transcript
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 01:49 PM by dsc
Please, oh please, point out the illuminating discussion here. I really do want to see this.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3916793/

BTW Here is what I was referring to, and it was part of this discussion you called immuminating.

MR. BRODER: I saw the same kind of contrast when I was out there earlier this week. Gephardt gave a pep talk to about 175 union business agents and staff people who’d come in from around the country. I’d say it was about 98 percent male and the median size of these guys, about 6’3”, 250 pounds. Then I went over to...

MR. RUSSERT: My kind of guy.

MR. BRODER: Then I went over to the Dean headquarters, they’re young, they’re female, they’re gay, and they’re small. And I thought to myself, I hope those Gephardt guys don’t run into the Dean people. You know it would be a bad scene.

MR. TODD: You know, it’ll be interesting at the caucuses, on caucus night, if there is some physical intimidation, or not, I mean...

MR. RUSSERT: Punch everybody out.

Mr. TODD: Yeah.

MR. BROWNSTEIN: I wanted to add a shirt size cross tab to our poll after experiencing the same thing. I think we’d find a pretty clear division.

MR. RUSSERT: Double XL.

MR. BROWNSTEIN: Yeah, absolutely.

The transcript leaves out the laughter but it was there.

19. Caucus systen vs primary - not about Iowa, Dean spoke truth (which they
did agree at the end)

Does not matter -

Dean is set up for a fall on a too small a win basis by these guys.

And Iowa is 25/23 Dean/Gep at this point.

"Todd as much as straight-shooter as you'll find in the press" is a fair statement but that just shows how the press allows itself to crap on Dems via a good moderator pushing sound bites rather than a discussion with all the if and buts and comparisons to Bush that an honest conversation would require.

someone else said that Ann Coulter could be one of the Joker's. Put some makeup on her like the Joker from Batman I.

I guess the other one could be Tammy Bruce? But that is too easy. It has to be someone better.

Andrew Sullivan???

I already wrote an e-mail this morning to MWO to make a card deck. I wonder what my response will be.

12. Intolerable Cruelty
I saw that movie a couple of months ago, and there's a scene where Clooney faces a lawyer's convention. In his newfound idealism, he looks out at the crowd and everyone looks like aliens.

I got that feeling while watching CNN yesterday, the show "Washington this Week" (or whatever its called) with Novak, Sullivan, etc. They all looked so fake ...

20. There was one interesting comment from Novak however.
He referred to America's new imperialistic world view (or something along those lines). My husband almost fell out of his chair when he heard that. We couldn't figure out if Novak was supportive of this policy, or was not so subtly trying to get the truth out for the purpose of stopping the * international train wreck. And as an aside we read in our morning pape today that US is eying a Syrian invasion.

16. I used to work in the news media
Wrote news scripts and edited videotape as a production assistant for a CBS affiliate in San Antonio. I can tell you that in general the news media people are bright and articulate (obviously) and excellent at schmoozing, but their range of analytical tools and thought processes are pretty much limited to those presented in the journalism schools. They do not think out of the box. In fact the entire news media is a very conformist, herd-oriented industry. Look in the dictionary under "trendsuckers", etc...

27. How truly bizarre.
I was at one of the Gore/Harkin events for Dean in Iowa yesterday and I have to tell you that the group was a huge mix, but they were a lot closer to the talking heads description of Gephardt's supporters than the description of Dean supporters. In case the reporters forget, Dean was endorsed by 3 large unions, Gephardt has not cornered the market on the unions, which I assume is what the reporter was implying by his description of Gep's supporters. And I am sure that Bush*'s supporters, represent the vast spectrum of our population.

28. Do "journalists" normally insult campaign supporters this much?
I've followed politics for many years and I don't recall a time when so many insults were thrown at actual voters. Dean has over half a million supporters signed up with his campaign, and these "journalists" are comfortable attacking us? I don't get it.
