Green Party VP Candidate Suggested Voting For Kerry In Swing States
Pat LaMarche, the Green Party Candidate for Vice President suggested on Amy Goodman's show Democracy Now! this morning that it would be advisable for Greens to vote for Kerry/Edwards in swing states. The way she put it, America may have elected by accident the worst US President in history in 2000 because it may not have been clear what we were getting. Now that we know Bush is just about the worst President we could imagine, his re-election won't be accidental but intentional, and we can't leave the country and the rest of the world with the idea that America would stomach this. "He deserves to be fired" is what the Green Party VP candidate said and that means voting for Kerry in the swing states where it will make a difference.

1. This has been the GP's standard for 2004...
Their nominee, David Cobb, won the nomination by suggesting that Greens in swing states vote for Kerry, whereas those in firm "red" or "blue" states could feel free to vote for the GP.

The problem isn't/wasn't the GP -- it's Nader.

6. I couldn't agree more.
If one good thing has come out of the George Jr. administration, it's the popularization of alternative media.

And Ms. Goodman and Mr. Gonzales and the rest of the DN! crew has proven up to the task.

Great work and thank you for helping to save our democracy.

4. I agree and that's why I'm voting Green here in California
I don't have to worry about Kerry not winning here

7. I like independents in "safe states" who are supporting a non-Nader ticket
You don't need to vote Nader to express distrust of the two-party system.

I'm a Peace and Freedom Party member in California, but I'll be voting for Kerry because I'd like to see him win the Popular vote even if he loses the Electoral College - at the least that'll make George Jr.'s 2nd term illegitimate as well. But I don't begrudge those in solidly safe states from voting 3rd party this time around. I was a Green supporter in 2000, and I'll likely be a Green supporter in 2008.

10. Thank you.
And do keep in mind, that if the election ends up in the Supreme Court, the greater the popular vote victory, the greater the pressure to find for the popular vote victor.

Of course this doesn't amount to much -- but it is something.

Besides, with all the fraud and vote suppression planned, what is a safe state?
