Yesterday on DU I posted the link to the White House Web Site's "Record of Achievement" for Bush's first term (
http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/achievement/) and the incredibly self-congradulatory comment "President George W. Bush’s first term has been among the most consequential and successful in modern times. Under his leadership, the United States is waging and winning the war against global terrorism. The United States and its coalition partners liberated more than 50 million people from two regimes of extraordinary brutality that had provided safe haven to terrorists. And we are promoting democracy in regions of the world that have never known it."
TODAY, CNN is running the headline "Blasts, gunfire ring through central Baghdad (
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/10/07/iraq.main/index.html)"
"BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A rocket attack hit the Sheraton Hotel in central Baghdad on Thursday night, setting off a fire and drawing machine-gun fire from U.S. positions.
The lower level of the Sheraton, which houses Western journalists and foreign contractors, was damaged. There was no immediate word of casualties.
The explosions and machine-gun fire sent journalists and others in the area running for cover. CNN Correspondent Brent Sadler said he saw two low-trajectory rockets.
Video showed a fire burning near the Sheraton. The hotel is in a heavily secured area."
TOMORROW, Bush is going to go before the world and talk about the progress he's responsible for in building a free and safe Iraq. Think he'll mention any of this?
