I think the main idea of the town-hall debate is to connect with the people. Both candidates oughta keep this in mind. They're not going to score big points with people attacking the hell out of each other.

An attack will work if it includes "here is what i propose"
That is what worked for Kerry in the last debate and did not work for Bush because he didn't have any proposals. Instead Bush said "Mixed Messages" over and over again.
