What would happen if BushCo would admit Iraq War was a mistake?
Hypothetically, what do you think would happen?

Let's say Bush, Cheney, Condi, Powell, Rumsfeld, et al. were to arrange a press conference tomorrow. Let's say, that one by one, they all admit that invading Iraq was a terrible mistake, that they knew going in that it'd be a catastrophe, that they should have let the UN inspectors do their job, that they're very very sorry for what they've done and would send financial aid to the families of those killed in the war. And that they have a plan for withdrawing US troops within the next month. And that maybe being "resolute" wasn't the best course of action.

I know; it'll never happen. But just imagine such a scenario: would this be their downfall, or would the sudden "brave" change of heart endear BushCo even MORE to the American people, putting B/C over the top in november? I'd bet that the American people are so fucking brainwashed by now that it might convert many who'd otherwise vote for Kerry based on this one issue.

After all, the right claimed for the longest time that had Clinton simply admitted to an affair with Lewinsky and apologized, they wouldn't have pursued impeachment.

1. What would happen? The end.
It's the keystone to their entire regime. Take it out, it's all over.

2. They Would Be Drummed Out Of Office...
It's a tad bit late for mea culpas....

It would be like Jeff Davis saying in 1864 secession was a big joke...

3. What they are saying now
is "it was still the right thing to do to attack Iraq even without the WMD's" Why????? Didn't say yet. This was on CNN Headline News. This gets nuttier by the minute.

13. Yes, just like Jim Baker, once exposed, they are big cry babies
hiding behind religion to do their evil deeds.

7. Might have worked if they had done it
early on. Its too late now and it would be seen for what it was--fake remorse to get sympathy and votes.

8. They'd all get a one-way ticket to the Hague...
Okay, wishful thinking. Still, at this point, to admit a mistake nowafter denying that there was anything wrong about it for months would sink Chimpy further in the polls. His whole persona is based on him being a strong, resolute leader. Well, according to Karl Rove's political philosophy, strong and resolute leaders don't make, much less admit, mistakes.

11. Before or after the Earth split in half and the sun fell out of the sky?
The reason it would never happen is that they know that doing so would be the same thing as folding up the tents and going home. It would be a concession speech: You're right, Senator Kerry; it was the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time. And Dubya isn't much of a one for concession speeches. He lost last time and never got around to giving one.

14. Yeah, tarred and feathered. The best evidence they can't do this is...
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 02:01 PM by Brotherjohn
... their continued (and ever-bolder) "flat-earth" mentality. You know, like Cheney saying today "Oh, you'd think the report showing once and for all that Saddam had NO WMDS and had destroyed them all more than a decade ago would disinitegrate our justification for war. But actually, see, it VINDICATES us!!"

They CAN'T admit the truth, no matter how much evidence comes forward that works against them. As a result, they are beginning to seem more and more divorced from reality.

But that's their choice: appear delusional (and hope people won't notice, or will buy the smears, or will be too scared to vote against them) or appear WRONG (and get voted out, and hope yer ass doesn't end up in front of a war crimes tribunal).

Really not much of a choice.

If they did this, Kerry would win by by 75-25% popular vote, and get nearly EVERY electoral vote.
