"I don't think I'm a Republican"
My oldest son has been working on his boss for months now, they have a good relationship. Boss had been a real right wing type. Finally, last night, he cracked. They were talking about my youngest registering for the first time. The boss wanted to know what he registered as, my son said he didn't know. Boss said maybe the youngest is a conservative Democrat. Son said maybe. Boss let loose on ALL the Bushit, his anger over Halliburton, Iraq, deficit, etc. Said he didn't think he was a Republican after all, maybe just more conservative than anything else. We don't know how he's going to vote, but we don't think it's going to be for Bush! You really can get through to these dimwits after all!

Also, my daughter FINALLY registered. She's been hemming and hawing, your typical shopping, movies, parties, self-involved 21 year old. I cornered her for the 50th time, told her the ballot was going to be mailed to her for chrissake, would she register already. So she did. No party affiliation, but she registered. Whole family registered this year, wohoo!

Now I've got to go finish my precinct work. BTW, Oregonians, registration ends Tuesday. 6 more days, get to work!

2. that is true, not everyone who has a problem with Bush is a liberal
so in order to appeal to them for their votes, we can't attack Republican or Conservative views as a whole.

a better thing would be to point out a certain issue where Bush would not be seem as doing the conservative thing. such as the increase in the national debt with larger decifits under bush.

4. I've been running a voter registration table
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 01:47 PM by pdxdem
at work all this week. The response has been great. :) One thing that helped was I put up a sign that said "Oregon Voter Change of Address". A lot of people seem to think that voter registration drives are only for new registrations.

What is really interesting to me is that people are mostly registering democrat or not affiliated. I had one guy change his party affiliation because "it's embarrassing being called a republican right now."

By the way, the Oct 12th deadline is only for new registrations. If you are already in their system, you can change your address, name or party affiliation at any time.

5. Good job, sandnsea.
I checked in with my kids yesterday. Son, daughter-in-law and daughter...rabid Democrats all. All voting in Maine this year, another close state.

6. Sounds like an experience I had.
I met this girl in a class I'm taking. I get to this class early every day, and when I get there, the professor and I sit there and talk politics the whole time -- by which I mean, we bash the shit out of Bush. Anyway, lately some other people have joined in on the act. There's this girl who just lambasts Bush like crazy, just as much as I do. She goes after him on the Iraq war, the deficit, environmental issues and social issues. I thought for sure she was a liberal. No! She's actually a registered Republican. She says, "I stand for small government, and thus I'm a Republican. Don't associate Bush with real Republicans. He's given us a huge deficit; he's attacked a nation for no reason causing thousands of deaths -- both US military and Iraqi civilians -- and hundreds of billions of dollars; and he legislates personal behavior, which is NOT an act of small government." Wow! Real Republicans. They're not extinct????

7. That's kind of relieving.
It'd be disturbing to see a whole political stand disintegrate under the pressure of being redefined as total idiocy, just like it is horrible to see religions like Christianity and Islam redefined only by the worst of their adherents (ie. Born-again's and Taliban).

8. Lots of Goldwater conservatives are voting for Kerry
I know a lot of them who are, in any case. Goldwater conservatives are for fiscal restraint but not the religious bullshit that Bush and Asscroft are pushing at us. They're mainly reasonable types who want the same things the left does, but have a different opinion on how to get there. They bought the GOP line of crap for a lot of years during Reagan, BushI and Clinton, but no more. Bush has finally cured them.

Everybody but 3/4 of the religious crazies will either vote for Kerry or stay home, and even the religious crazies aint so sure any more.

9. it bothers me that these guys are domain squatters
I hope I'm wrong, but what I had heard is that factcheck.com is one of those sites that brings up search results and advertising -- all paid, and they get their traffic by people getting names wrong. People like that suck (even if they are on the right side)
