Chris Matthews Declares "Enough!"
This was just posted by a member at the Kerry/Edwards forum and thought I would transfer it here because Tweety is mad.

http://forum.johnkerry.com/index.php?showtopic=88334&hl=

Matthews was just on The Today Show. He essentially called Cheney a liar, and said that the press needed to start reporting the truth. He was ON FIRE. Ann Curry tried really hard to calm him down or get him to present a "balanced" view. He was having none of it. He ripped Cheney--just ripped him. He said the press needed to start doing their job, and that if they allowed guys like Cheney to continue lying without fact-checking, they were doing the public a grave disservice. It was a great moment. I suspect Matthews was cut short this morning. Ann Curry seemed really unhappy with the way the whole thing went.

Actually, he's always said that the Veep's office was the primary mover behind the war. Maybe he's back on his meds.

33. I've been watching his show all the time
One thing that has never changed is he felt this war was wrong. I think with everything coming out and then the way Bush has been acting he finally broke. Freepers were putting stress on the network and him. I read some post where they were trying to boycott MSN NBC product advertiser.

There was also a point where my dad and I noticed his change. It was right before the RNC convention. He was going pretty hard on republicans and democrats. There was one show where he looked like he didn't want to be there or he was ill feeling. I believe that was the point when they started pressuring big time.

59. He flip-flopped on the war.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 04:01 AM by crunchyfrog
I remember him speaking out quite forcefully against it during the buildup. Then when they pulled the statue down, he was ecstatic and took back everything he had said before. "Hey, we pulled down a statue! That makes everything alright."

Then, when Chimpy had his air craft carrier landing, Tweety went apeshit. He was just gaga over the bulge in Chimpy's flightsuit. At that point I'm sure he was 100% in favor of the invasion.

I guess after hundreds more soldiers had died and no WMDs had been found, he maybe started having some questions again.

I really think he's absolutely hopeless. He will always get your hopes up, and then dash them. I gave up on him after the first time he changed his opinion about the war. I haven't been taken in since.

10. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I remember one day that winter, I got a call from an MSNBC producer. Hans Blix and the weapons inspectors had only been in-country a few days, and this producer wanted me on the (I think) Connie Chung show. The catch, however, was that she wanted me to talk about what the inspectors were doing wrong. "What if I think they aren't doing anything wrong?" I asked. Silence on the line. A short chuckle. A demurral. A click. If I wasn't going to slam the inspectors, I wasn't wanted on MSNBC. This is one of the eight billion reasons I want to break furniture when DUers take that fucking network, or any of its on-air 'talent,' seriously.

37. He's covering for his wife
...She is on air talent in DC, working at the same station that canned Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect (they ignored emails from literally tens upon tens upon tens of thousands of viewers--including members of congress--who bitched mightily, but refused to put it back on) so if he goes too far off the reservation, Kathleen suffers. It is owned by those insane, rightwing shits, Allbritton Communications. They should take a walk, blindfolded, on the beltway at rush hour, the bums.

I'm dead serious about his fears for her job.

When you have kids and need to pay for college, it is easy to become a whore.

"When you have kids and need to pay for college, it is easy to become a whore."

He isn't a mid level manager, he is national TV personality with his own TV show. His salary must reflect this.

Don't these people save? If he was a small cog in the wheel, I might feel sorry for him. Not somebody like Mathews. People who make much less than he does show some moral courage.

Off topic, but does Keith Olbermann have a family (I really don't know)?

56. DC is weird....
If you live in the burbs, housing is is a little expensive (there are areas in the nation that are a bit worse, but many that are WAY cheaper), but if you live in the really good DC 'hoods, it is absurd. And unless you live in NORVA, you do not want to send your kids to public schools--in DC and MD, they kind of suck. I think they are still living in MD, Bethe$da? maybe, but do not quote me.

Food costs in the region are off the charts--I've never seen groceries more costly than DC--they are way cheaper in New England, if you don't include Cape Cod. And MSNBC does not pay all that well...it ain't DAN RATHER or TOM BROKAW type salaries--it's way, way less than they make, a bit better than the anchor on a local news show in a big market.

I'm not an apologist for Tweety (he has driven me screeching mad at times), but Tip O'Neill was my neighbor and hero.

Tip hired him, so he can't be all bad. He just cannot be.

If I'm gonna go for hope with Kerry/Edwards, I gotta hope that one day Tweety will come home to his roost with the Democrats. Hope, not hate!

19. It's because Tweety was duped spectacularly right after the debate.
He called Cheyney "brilliant" and laughed about how the troll dismissed JE with his cutting remarks about never having met him before.

Tweety was so hyped about how Cheyney had cleaned Edward's clock that nobody could disagree with him. Finally the network brough in Brokaw and Russert for commentary. The first words out of Brokaw's mouth were a very, very stern cautionary "Well I'm not so sure, Chris." He went on to explain how maybe Cheyney did not do so well in the eyes of the electorate, and Russert chimed in with more of same.

IMO, what had happened was these guys had an eyeful of the feedback on their on-line polls and wanted to help keep MSRNC from looking ridiculous (which--with Tweety on--is pretty much a vain effort anyway).

20. Bush Resume
My Resume: 2000 - 2004

I attacked and took over 2 innocent countries.

I squandered the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the US Treasury.

I shattered the record for the biggest annual deficit in history (not easy!).

I set an economic record for the most personal bankruptcies filed in any
12 month period.

I set all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the stock market.

I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.

In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on
vacation by any president in US history (tough to beat my dad's, but I did).

After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over
the worst security failure in US history.

I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any president in
US history.

In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any
other president in US history.

I set the all-time record for most real estate foreclosures in a 12-month
period.

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than
any president in US history.

I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president since the
advent of TV.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than
any other US president in history.

I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to
intervene when corruption was revealed.

I cut health care benefits for war veterans.

I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously
take to the streets to protest me (15 million people ), shattering the
record for protests against any person in the history of mankind.

I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US
history.

I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in
US history.

Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US
history. (The poorest multimillionaire, Condolisa Rice, has a Chevron oil
tanker named after her.)

I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the
Union simultaneously struggle against bankruptcy.

I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market
in any country in the history of the world.

I am the first president in US history to order a US attack AND military
occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the
United Nations and the vast majority of the international community.

I have created the largest government department bureaucracy in the
history of the United States, called the "Bureau of Homeland
Security" (only one letter away from BS).

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases,
more than any other president in US history (Ronnie was tough to beat,
but I did it!!).

I am the first president in US history to compel the United Nations to
remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations
remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of
congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.

I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant. I withdrew from the World
Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by
default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.

I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election
inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.

I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign
donations.

The biggest lifetime contributor to my campaign, who is also one of my
best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds
in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US
history.

I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack
(and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1).

I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.

I took the world's sympathy for the US after 9/11, and in less than a year
made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest
diplomatic failure in US and world history).

I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people
of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace
and stability.

I changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government
contracts.

I set the all-time record for the number of administration appointees who
violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations
bidding for gov't contracts.

I have removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any
other president in US! history.

I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years
turned every single economic category heading straight down.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES: I have at least one conviction for drunk
driving in Maine (Texas driving record has been erased and is not available).

I was AWOL from the National Guard and deserted the military during time of war.
I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use (wink, wink).

All records of my tenure as governor of Texas have been spirited away
to my fathers library, sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All records of any SEC investigations into my insider trading or bankrupt
companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All minutes of meetings of any public corporation for which I served on the
board are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

Any records or minutes from meetings I (or my VP) attended regarding public
energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

He's a political hack. He worked for Tipper, he worked for Carter, he worked for Ed Muskie. He also was in the Peace Corps in Africa. He thought about running for office in PA, but then lost enthusiasm. Not sure if it was cash flow, support, or personal issues that made him back off that idea.

36. yes, he's schizo, but I really think there's been a change
I think the press corps/media are simply stunned at the continued outright lying and spinning the administration is doing in light of the facts. And I think, hope, it's finally too much for them, or at least some of them.

40. UUUweee. As the worm turns.
I'll question his motives later. Right now he's saying the right things.

43. What if the Cheney cheerleading was a setup by Tweety?
What if he intentionally hyped Cheney, knowing full well, that Cheney's "zingers" would backfire?

I can see two reasons for this:

1. Giving the whole story more legs
2. Giving himself cover from Freeper types

I don't always trust Tweety, but this seems plausible to me.

55. Tweety is lower than plant life
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 07:01 PM by Miss_Bevey
An egregious whore with no spine. It's amazing he has a thumb left, considering how many times he's held it up to the wind. He goes with the times, and would sell this country down the river as long as he gets to keep his seat at the cool kids table. When Kerry wins, Tweety will act like he was always behind him, and had never thought of writing him off.

TweetyBird: massive, colossal rectal opening.

63. Oh, please... I heard him again briefly last night trashing Kerry for
being unlikeable... in a minute or two before Olbermann came on.

There's a REASON why a whole lot of people have quit watching him or anything he's associated with.

64. Well now,
We will see tonight if he follows his own damn advice, won't we? I have thought, so many times, that Tweety had seen the light, only to be disappointed day after day. The Michelle Malkin interview was some of his best work. However, THAT kind of interview is far and few between. Let's see what Tweety does tonight after the debate. That will be the true test. WHY, after 4 fucking years of cheerleading for this administration, all of a sudden Mathews wants to tell the TRUTH??? I'll take it, if he does, but I don't forgive him for what he's done for this administration. He had to know they were lying, I DID!

65. CM is probably pissed at the RNC for the video they made slamming him
The RNC and conservatives have been on MAtthews' case since the dust-up with Malkin, and especially since the dust-up with Zell. Now the RNC came out with a web video slamming "Democrat Chris Matthews" and he probably decided he had enough. Even a whore has limits.
