The counterculture thingy, as you call it, was all about guys having a great time with the "sexual revolution." A growing lesbian movement grew out of that time, because so-called liberal men were acting just like their old dads when it came to their relationships with women. The counterculture was counter in many ways, but it was very ignorant and backwards when it came toward women. And you can read writings from women from that time frustrated with the lack of liberalism when it came to women in leadership roles.
