Bush, Cheney Concede Saddam Had No WMDs
Bush, Cheney Concede Saddam Had No WMDs
By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - President Bush and his vice president conceded Thursday in the clearest terms yet that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, even as they tried to shift the Iraq war debate to a new issue — whether the invasion was justified because Saddam was abusing a U.N. oil-for-food program.

Ridiculing the Bush administration's evolving rationale for war, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry shot back: "You don't make up or find reasons to go to war after the fact."

"The Duelfer report showed that Saddam was systematically gaming the system, using the U.N. oil-for-food program to try to influence countries and companies in an effort to undermine sanctions," Bush said as he prepared to fly to campaign events in Wisconsin. "He was doing so with the intent of restarting his weapons program once the world looked away."
Duelfer found no formal plan by Saddam to resume WMD production, but the inspector surmised that Saddam intended to do so if U.N. sanctions were lifted. Bush seized upon that inference, using the word "intent" three times in reference to Saddam's plans to resume making weapons.

1. This just gets better and better!
SO! It wasn't 'preemptive', it was 'intentional'?
Who woulda thunk.

Love JK's response! 'you' here does not apply, though.
Obviously, 'they' do!

8. Gaming the oil for for food program was worth 1,067 of our soldier's lives
And $200 BILLION of our dollars so far? That's the argument that Bush is now promoting. It turns my stomach. Our young men and women dying for fucking naught.

Bush is a monster. He and his administration think of the people who make up our military as cannon fodder.

Is Bushco trying to stir up the hate? Because my hate index doubled after reading about the sheer size of the WMD lie they promoted.

Damn them. :puke:

11. So where was the threat?
Huh? Mr President* ,WHERE IS THE GODDAMNED THREAT?!!

Why isn't this bunch of goons being arrested right now? They fed Congress a bunch of doctored up "Cliffs Notes" intelligence reports in the shadow of the 9-11 attacks and dared them not to vote for this shit or their patriotism would be put on trial for opposing "measures to keep 'Murka safe". What will it take for the masses to wake up and demand justice? Oh, don't tell me, I know. There needs to be a blowjob involved. Now THAT'S something terrible.

13. My God.
Can you imagine Kerry reciting the trail of Bush's ex post justifications for the war?

First, Saddam had WMDs, and we had to get him before there was a mushroom cloud.

Then, Saddam was bad man.

Then, to make Iraq a beacon of democracy.

Then, Saddam was supporting Al Qaeda.

No, never mind, Saddam might have been planning to get WMDs one day, and then he might have given them to terrorists somewhere, who might have used them against us.

No, never mind all that, Saddam was subverting the oil for food program!

Can anything be more absurd and flip floppy than this?

14. Flip Flop is right

If *shrub says "Saddam wasn't disarming" one more time, Kerry needs to say "disarming what?!" *Bush needs to be broken down on that shit EVERY TIME it comes out of his lying mouth.

15. NPR: Waste of Needed Intelligence Resources
NPR had an interesting story about the search for WMDs in Iraq. They said $900 million has been spent so far on the search, with nothing to show for it. They said that many military officers on the ground in Iraq are upset that so many valuable resources (1,000 intelligence analysts, Arabic translators, munition experts, etc.) are still comitted to try to find WMDs, when they are needed to deal with the insurgents who are currently killing U.S. troops.

What is more important - saving U.S. soldiers or trying to desparately find some rationale for Bush's poor decision-making in time for the election?

It's all about the UN, we had to invade Iraq and go against the UN to show Saddam he can't ignore the UN. It's all so clear.
