October Surprise
I was very pleased with Kerry's performance in the debate last week. Another such performance in the next two debates and I really think he'll win. My only worry is the much discussed possibility of an "October Surprise"--finding Bin Laden two days before the election, suddenly "finding" WMD's in Iraq, etc. etc.

I certainly hope the Kerry campaign has contingency plans to deal with this possibility. Does anyone think this will happen? Has there been any word of any plans by the Kerry people to deal with such a possibility?

1. Only surprise I know of is that Bush is going to dress in a
monkey suit for Halloween. Cheney is dressing as a bum.

2. There seems to be a lot of coincidences lately
that could set up real trouble were we to suddenly "find" a cache of WMD. It would be yet another coincidence, the kind those of us at DU have been scoffing at for any number of years. However, would the public understand they were played? Don't know, hope we don't find out.

4. Well, gwb seemed P.O.'d at the first debate that Osame kept
being brought to his attention. "I KNOW Osama attacked the United States. I KNOW that!"

I would think (hope) if Osama's capture/death was known with 100% certainty, he would start popping up in gwb's speeches and debate answers now and then.

As far as WMD's...anything is possible in a chaotic war zone. However, David Kay and today's report would hopefully negate that.

Sadly, there are so many other scenarios that could be manipulated to create brief support for gwb. I worry about it, like most of us here. MKJ

5. Funny/Scary. I just started a topic on this. I think it is beginning with
this school terror alert.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x999968

TERROR TERROR TERROR!!! For the next four weeks.

FOUR WEEKS!!!

And I think they (BFEE) might actually try another 9-11 on our kids or on a nuke plant

Goebbels called it, form a strategic point of view:
"An Electoral BOMB" (that is what he called it according to historians quoting witnesses when the Nazis blew up the Reichstag and blamed it on foreign terrorists)

Be prepared for anything.

Hopefully they are actually smart enough to know it won't work and is a bad idea.

But they seem seriously retarded in that department intellectually and insane enough to try anything (like Hitler) even if it is massively suicidal for America and for Democracy)

8. and this is a surprise HOW?
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 08:21 PM by seventhson
so the whole war was a TOTAL waste of time???

I am not sure this will be much of a surprise nor will it help Bush much.

If Pickles went crazy and flew to Iraq and blew Saddam away in his sleep then THAT might help bozo.

9. Or expect a full confession in exchange for leniency.
I can hear it now... "Yes, I Saddam Hussein wanted to develop nuclear weapons and would have succeeded if it were not for your U.S. president. Oh, and Senator John Kerry is a flip flopper"

7. Of COURSE they have....
...and October Surprise planned!

You think Karl "Prince of Darkness" Rove would let a perfectly good October slip by?

If they're just a little behind, it'll be Osama.

If they're way behind, it'll be terror attacks -- Big ones!
