Laguna Beach slide is still moving

Recent boring tests on Madison Way indicate movement that could signal a new slide. Residents on the street will not be allowed back in their homes.

LAGUNA BEACH – City officials expressed concern today that ground movement detected at the site of the Bluebird Canyon landslide could signal another slide.

At a meeting with residents, city officials announced that the results of boring tests on Madison Way showed the ground had moved one-tenth of an inch at a depth of 20 feet.

That is alarming, city geologist Hannes Richter said, because it registered so soon after the inclometers were placed into the soil two days ago.

(snip)

City officials had hoped to release most of the yellow-tagged homes on Madison Way to residents by Monday, but said the test results have stalled those plans.

1. "Recent boring tests on Madison Way indicate
movement that could signal a new slide."

On the contrary, judging by the results, I'd say those tests were quite exciting.

2. It's funny how that happens, when you rebuild a neiborhood...
...on the SAME HILLSIDE that wiped out the SAME Neighborhood in 1978 with a Landslide. I don't know how long it takes for California Hillside to stabilize, but it not a year or two.

They need to write off that Neighborhood and PLEASE, DO NOT let the State or Federal Government "Bail them out!" Those people need to just write those houses off their Taxes, and Move somewhere else!
