STOCKTON, Calif. -- A levee has broken in the delta in San Joaquin County west of Stockton.
The break was discovered about 8:30 a.m. and is estimated to be 200 to 300 feet on Lower Jones Tract, north of Woodward Ferry, near Highway 4 and Bacon Island Road. It is close to a main rail line and pipelines that carry water to the East Bay.
Emergency personnel are notifying residents to evacuate the area, which is mostly agricultural.
Officials said there could be as many as 300 migrant workers living in camps in the area. There are no homes in the area.
