Note: This post has been updated several times, the current headline reflects the most current info.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/probe/20050718-1056-bn19trial.html

I just heard that some guilty verdicts were returned. I will post more info when it becomes available.

Update: This appears at the top of www.uniontrib.com I will post an article as soon as one is up

"BREAKING NEWS: Michael Zucchet, Ralph Inzunza, Lance Malone all guilty of federal corruption charges."

Update #2: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/probe/20050718-1230-ca-sandiegocorruption.html

"SAN DIEGO – A federal jury on Monday convicted San Diego's new acting mayor and a city councilman of taking illegal campaign contributions from a strip club owner – the latest blow to a city awash in scandal.
Michael Zucchet, who became interim mayor over the weekend, was found guilty of conspiracy, extortion and fraud on his first business day in office. He will almost certainly have to resign.

Councilman Ralph Inzunza, who was convicted of the same charges, is also likely to step down.

The jury also returned guilty verdicts against former Clark County, Nev., Commissioner Lance Malone, who worked for strip club owner Michael Galardi to repeal San Diego's ban preventing nude dancers and patrons from touching each other. "

1. Your help needed to elect Donna Frye as mayor--come to SD this weekend!
We now have a terrific shot at getting Donna Frye elected as Mayor of San Diego. The special election is Tuesday, July 26th. The only other Democrat in the race, Jim Bell, has just bowed out and endorsed Donna. Donna has been endorsed nationally by PDA and DFA--and we have Jim Dean (Howard Dean's brother) coming to town Sunday to help out!

DFA is asking volunteers from all over the Southwest to come to San Diego this weekend and help walk precincts for Donna, or man phone banks. We're hosting a BBQ on the bay Saturday night for all volunteers, plus a picnic on Sunday at Balboa Park with Jim Dean!

Donna is a huge advocate of open, honest government. In the wake of Mayor Murphy's resignation and now the convictions (and pending resignations) of the Acting Mayor and another Council member, the need to restore integrity in government here is the best argument for electing Donna.

If you can help, please e-mail Martha Sullivan at SDVoterXpress@aol.com.
