Weird, weird weather again
OK, who ordered up summer rain for the SF East Bay? We don't expect this stuff in July, for Pete's sake.
:wtf:

1. Well, us New Yorkers are going thru some sub-tropical jungle weather.
I guess things are pretty weird all over.
But remember..Global Warming is just a fignewton of our imagination.

2. Denver: record high for July, tied all-time record from 1890s.

105 degrees. I see that LA is in the 80's. How can that be?

5. UGH--wasn't it gross last night?
It seemed like there was no air at all. No breezes blowing, it was completely still and the air was gross and thick.

I'm thrilled that there is a breeze blowing today. Can you believe it?

:hi:

10. miserable... but not nearly like Hawaii at this time of year

i'm waiting til a little later so i can vacuum out the car that we just got back from the body shop. ( daughter's fault )

so no matter how i lobbied, DH would not go to costco for a portable A/C because the car repair cost so much.

the yorkies get misted w/ rose water or dampened w/ a tepid washcloth, so they're ok.

btw, i saw 'blame bush' and 'support the troops, bring them home alive" stickers yesterday. I get so mad at the W ones. I put one on my car that says, 'no matter what happens, i'm going to believe what i see on tv'. covered up the " Don't blame me...I voted for Kerry" since daughter got harassed for it. ( CUT OFF on the st. etc )

oh. we were almost caught in that police killing thing in Harbor City yesterday. Thank God we missed it. I would have passed out!

i feel a little breeze now. cool enough to vacuum the car!

13. OMG! You were near the shooting!?
I'm SO glad that you are alright! (whew)Dh got the paper today (I hate the Breeze) just to read about that incident.

Dh and I were so miserable during last summer's heat waves, we vowed to get something for the apt. this year. We got one of those room coolers. You can roll it from room to room, you just put water in it. We saw a similiar model at Costco after we bought this one.

It does help! It's not cool like central air conditioning, but it helps and it makes it much more tolerable in here.

Hope you guys get some relief soon!

:hi:

16.  yeah, but we didn't know it til i saw the Breeze at work today

we saw the helicopters and went, duh, something must be going on.

costco has a variety of coolers and a/cs . i wish we'd put in central when we had the new furnace put in.

btw. if there are any more MoveOn parties like we had last year, PM me because the one place we go is FABULOUS.

i was pleasantly surprised to see ROCKET video on the new MoveON petition list. I know the former owner and he would be very pleased!

21. Moveon had a party last year?
If YOU find out anything about a party--let ME know! :)

I'm pretty new to the workings of moveon. I initially signed a petition with them a few weeks ago--and ended up on their e-mail alerts list.

I wish I new someone that went out to collect signatures. I couldn't make it. :(

15. Hawaii--
Is all of Hawaii the same weather wise?

I worked w/a woman, some time ago that said she visited, and made the mistake of going to one of the islands that gets rain almost year round. I had never heard this from anyone but her, so I wondered if it was even accurate (as she was one of those know it all people--that really didn't know much at all...lol).

;)

Dh was just saying a few nights ago, he'd like to take me. I told him I would have to do some research on DU to find out which island, what time of year, etc...and then you mention it! What a coincidence!

:woohoo:

17. august is miserable

and september is too.

gets nice around november but then it can rain a lot too, during the 'winter'. i'd say april - june would be nice.

i think Kauai ( the garden isle ) gets more rain but i'm not sure.

me, born and raised there, i've only been to the Big Island once. and none of the other islands. spent my time on Oahu.

on a couple of trips we went and stayed in hotels in Waikiki rather than w/ family. we did all the touristy things, and saw things in a whole different light. bldgs that i'd never even thought about, things like that.

i want to take one of those new cruises that go from island to island. i want my husb. to see the volcano area. that's really something. i've never seen a live volcano but the lava flows are something else. they are visible at the edge of the HILO airport!

make sure to go sit on the patio of the Moana Hotel, (it's open to non-guests as well), listen to the music, watch the hula dancers, have a drink, listen to the waves on the beach... we saw sea turtles just off shore!

if you go over New Year's, boy are you in for an experience! EVERYBODY blows of tons of firecrackers. It's like a war zone.

oh... one of my friends told me to get a condo rather than a hotel. cheaper, etc. we might try that next time .

4. It's cloudy and humid in Sacramento-
not real hot but it looks like it might rain a bit.

Yesterday was hot as hell and a cloudless sky, typical Sacramento weather, today it's like the south but without fireflies.

All year our weather's beeen really freakin' wierd, and I've seen all kinds of bugs we've never had here before, including brown recluse spiders (I've had two relatives bit by them this year, I'd never seen or heard of them being here before this year) and a leach.

People who doubt the reality of climate change must live someplace else.

6. Leaches? Oh no! What's a recluse spider?
No pictures please. LOL! Spiders freak me out.

We get a lot of them in our building. Oddly when it's hot they come inside, when it rains they come inside. Can't seem to get rid of the little bastards!

8. About brown recluse spiders (no pics, but a description of thier bite)
they're light to medium brown, about the size of a quarter (counting the legs, which are pretty long in proportion to the body) and sometimes a vioin shaped marking is visible on thier back, which is why they're also called fiddleback spiders. They like dark quiet spaces, which is where the recluse part comes in.

Thier bites tend to turn necrotic, the tissue dies and leaves a sunken hole behind. My uncle got bit by one earlier this year and the bite turned purple and green, got really swollen, then left a hole in his arm that looked like somebody'd dug a chunk out with an ice cream scoop. Needless to say it left a hell of a scar.

11. NO brown recluse spiders in California.....read this ->
according to this article from University of California at Davis,
there are no brown recluse spiders in california

http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7468.html

"The brown recluse, however, is an enigma: there are no populations of the brown recluse Loxosceles reclusa, in the state and fewer than 10 verified specimens have been collected over several decades in California. Yet people frequently relate stories in which they or someone they know was supposedly bitten by a brown recluse in California."

musta been another brown spider :-(

14. Yuck! That sounds horrible!
As if it isn't bad enough to be bitten by a spider, you have to have an awful scar, after the fact. :(

Are these a recent occurence to the Sacramento area?

I'm sorry you guys got these foul, little creatures. :grr:

20. My son recently showed this to me re: brown recluse spider bite
If you are curious and have a strong stomach, here are some photos showing the stages of effects from a brown recluse spider bite. If you're easily grossed out, the first pic is fine (it's only the spider).

19. Clouds were a welcome relief here
The Lake Co. area did not get rain as far as I know, but without the sun it was a much cooler, albeit humid, day. I suppose it will be hot again tomorrow and over the weekend.

Thank goodness I am taking a weekend off from the Novato Renaissance faire. Another weekend of 100+ in full Elizabethan court clothes would wipe me out. But being a masochist, I will venture forth again on the last weekend of the month. Think cool.
