3. snip from article - UNREAL |
|
"In all, 19 machines had 21 screen freezes or system crashes, producing a blue screen and messages about an 'illegal operation' or a 'fatal exception error.' A Diebold technician had to restart the machine for voting to resume. Ten machines had a total of 11 printer jams. Almost a third of all machines in the mock election had one problem or another."

4. Why doesn't someone else make voting machines? |
|
It seems to me like the market is ripe.
A bulletproof, paper-verifiable, easy-to-use machine.
Open source software, publicly available for inspection.
Secure, cannot be "altered" the day of the election or any time thereafter. Tamper-proof enclosures.
Standardized, identical machines. Training new operators would be easy with no specialized knowledge required. (No mysterious "technicians").
I say let someone start a company like that - and let the market and the people decide.

6. There are plenty of other companies. |
|
A full list would be huge.
...unfortunately most of the big ones are owned by untrustworthy concerns.

8. From Rethugs point of view that means they work perfectly! |
|
They're "crashing" by design. Not a bug, but a feature, in their mind, and it is working as designed!
