Suggestions for restaurants in Eureka/Arcata area and Crescent City
Hi! I know there's at least one DU'er in this area. We're looking for good food without pretension in both these areas. All adults so a nice ambiance is a plus. We're open to all cuisines except solely vegan, although a restaurant with good vegetarian/vegan food as part of the menu is a plus, as is a commitment to local and organic food.
Any suggestions?

Suggestions of favorite trails in the various redwood and shoreline parks would be appreciated too.

Thanks.

2. I like Luzmillas out on Guintoli Lane N. of Arcata (Mexican).
There are others, but I don't keep up.

For hiking, this time of year, I'd try Prairie Creek or Gold Bluffs.
Patrick's Point should be nice for day hiking around too.
And the Mouth of the Mattole should be great in a windy sort of way.
Closer in to town you could go to Mad River Beach if you can find it.

Enjoy.

Golden Harvest Cafe has a location on G St. in Arcata and one on Broadway in Eureka. Excellent brunch for all dietary preferences.

Stars is a hamburger place further up from GHC on G St. in Arcata and also on Harrison Ave in Eureka. They only use free range beef.

Also consider I-Jals Jamaican Kitchen on 4th St (Hwy 101), on the right shortly after arriving in Eureka from Arcata.

Hurricane Kate's is good too in Eureka's Old Town (2nd St. btw F/G).

I'm no gourmet but I like these places and patronize them regularly.

5. Not a restaurant suggestion but an important thing do while here
This is about Arcata. There is an ongoing dispute about whether the City Council's progressive politics are bad for business. Some business owners try to use that to cow the Council into complacency. It doesn't usually work but it exacerbates a source of division in an otherwise tight community. If you can, I would encourage you to visit businesses on the Arcata Plaza and let them know where you're from and that you look up to Arcata for its progressive leadership and would never hesitate to spend your money there.

6. Oh, yeah, like Fortuna is vibrant with commerce.
Arcata is nothing without the University and all those
liburuls. That was not always true, but it damn well is
now. Ungrateful swine.

one afternoon and more than willing to let the local merchants know that I appreciate Arcata as a spot where progressives are a welcome part of the mix.
