Los Angeles get together after the march on Sept. 24th |
|
The march ends at the Federal Building. A few people have suggested meeting afterwards at the lounge in the Biltmore. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/102816/?brand=smx_ta-cIts nearby as well as near the metro stop. OK- so who is in? and how do I get this on the front page?

I'm not going to be there yet! Go ahead, have fun without me. ;)
The Biltmore is gorgeous, I stayed there about a month ago. Watch out for the little park across the street though, it's kinda sketchy after dark.

sketchy...but there's always the little gay bar on 4th & Spring...hope it's still gay...there's been some gentrification going on since the "trendies" have moved in to the lofts nearby.

9. Protest in L.A. or here in Balboa Park in San Diego?... |
|
Just in our Dem meeting we were trying to work out an answer to this question... The 24th is shaping up to perhaps be the biggest protest day in U.S. history, and I think we all want to be a part of it, but we also want it to be the most effective in terms of being able to puncture the corporate media's implicit blackout of such efforts we've had to deal with in the past.
A number of folks in our group were thinking of going to going to Balboa Park with our Dem group banner amongst other things... But then some of us wondered if that protest won't be big enough to get noticed here, if we might be better off trying to make the protest in L.A. that much bigger by going up there instead (perhaps getting a bus, etc.). Of course the latter takes more work and takes out our whole day that day. My Dad's birthday is that day (who just went through life threatening surgery back when Terry Schiavo died, and is now recovered but permanently in a senior's home). My birthday is the next day too. A number of other things the day before too.
Others' thoughts? I'm willing to make some sacrifices to optimize the effect of this protest, but want to feel (along with those that would come from here that I'd like to convince to come there as well) that it would be that much more valuable to be someplace like L.A. instead.
