Voters, by 52% to 38%, likely to re-elect Feinstein, poll shows
MAJORITY WOULD NOT RE-ELECT GOVERNOR; SUPPORT FOUND FOR RUN BY ANGELIDES

By Laura Kurtzman

Mercury News Sacramento Bureau

SACRAMENTO - A majority of voters are inclined to re-elect Sen. Dianne Feinstein, according to a new Field Poll that once again found a majority of voters do not want to re-elect Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Voters want to re-elect Feinstein, who is a Democrat, by a healthy 52 to 38 percent. Ten percent have no opinion. Feinstein, who has no Republican opponent yet in next year's election, has either a majority or a plurality of support in every area of the state. The Central Valley is the tightest, where Feinstein prevails 48 percent to 45 percent.

On Tuesday, Feinstein joined a host of other elected officials who endorsed state Treasurer Phil Angelides in the Democratic primary for governor. State Controller Steve Westly is also running.

The poll found that Angelides has more support among Democratic voters than Westly, although 46 percent of those likely to vote in the primary have yet to make up their minds.

2. Definitely Not on the DiFi train to Corporate Hell & High Profits!
Actually, support at 52% is not a ringing endorsement. How soft and persuadable might the public be especially during a primary. DiFi got a vote from me in 2000 - that'll just have to hold her.

2006, hmmmm who :freak:

9. Maybe for now, but um CA is really blue and she
is barely over the 50% mark. And that's without factoring a margin of error. DiFi needs to shore up the base and let's just say some of us are not returning and we are telling our friends and family.

5. They obviously didn't ask any Dem Party insiders in their poll
Virtually all members of the California Democratic Central Committee HATE Feinstein and want her replaced. It's hard to find anyone on the State Central Committee who has anything positive to say about her. Without the support of party insiders and activists, she's lost (hopefully at the primary level). Most people think WMDs were found in Iraq. Those who know what's going on, know better.

Arnold may not be dead. Bill Lockyer (the California Democratic AG) is backing him and is confident of a Schwarzenegger victory. This makes me very concerned. We need to expect a lot of dirty tricks and mis-use of the media.

6. Perhaps you should run against her
If she is as unpopular with party insiders and activists as you suggest, she must not stand a chance against a primary challenge.

7. For all of you who continue to continue to support gerrymandered districts
Enjoy seeing Feinstein in her seat until she feels like retiring because one thing is sure and that is you'll never get an incumbant like her out of office. At least not under the current system.

8. What does gerrymandering have to do with it?
She represents the ENTIRE state. That's how Senators are elected. She does not represent a specific district like a member of the House of Representatives does.

Each senator represents half of the state. There is a lot of room to draw district lines in such a way that the political opposition gets divided up while your supporters don't. In any event I recall my ballot only having Boxer but not Feinstein so I believe the entire state does not get to elect a Senator. Only people who live in the Senator's district.

12. Nope both Senators are statewide
But their terms do not necessarily end in the same election years.

17. The previous poll on Diane was 60% just a month
ago, so she is down 8 points. Besides, I don't know of anyone running against her yet.

I have no doubt people would vote for someone else, I hope we get a good candidate to run against her.

Right now this poll is just showing Diane against nobody. That doesn't sound too good.

TIME FOR THE DINO DUMP!!!

SENATOR CINDY SHEEHAN SOUNDS GOOD!!
