Katrina and Rita - in our earthquake belt - e mailed my Congress people
I e-mailed Zoe Lofgren and Diane Feinstein, and sent a snail mail to Barbara Boxer (her web site was screwy today) about FEMA etc,

I asked for a no holds barred, complete, non-partisan, independent counsel with full subpoena and contempt powers.

My butt is on the line-- I am an NGO Disaster Responder and I live between the San Andreas and Hayward/Calaveras Faults in the Guadalupe River-Coyote Creek-Alviso Creek flood plain (the "VIII" region in red at the foot of SF Bay) - so I have a real dog in this fight!

Did you feel the "Great Piedmont Quake of 4:20 AM on Saturday, 9/24/2005?"

1. I am in So Cal
I have also wondered what kind of response we might expect. I'm not counting on anything. Guess it's time to re-evaluate the earthquake kit! I think it is clear that we can't rely on FEMA, especially now with Brownie as a consultant.

2. The only worthwhile part of FEMA is the syllabi's they provide
1.

And the Red Cross "Living on the Fault Line" course is worthwhile.

3. Years ago, when we first moved here
after living through blizzards in Boston and tornados outside Chicago, GIANT oak tree landing on my house, for some reason I was worried about earthquakes. I very carefully did all the stuff some guy on PBS told me to do to be prepared. Needless to say, I haven't updated the "box-o-supplies" since then! I'm not even sure where that little wrench thing is for the gas. It's time to realize that we are on our own in times of crises.

Great Piedmont Quake? Teeheeeheeheeee - heard the house 'pop' more than I felt it - I was standing up. Hubby got a good sway lying down, though - woke him right up. Did it even register as a 3? Looked a little puny on the ABAG map.......

5. I am one of those "Old Fart" Volunteer Responders
(Red Cross, Ham Radio, Citizens Corps) -- didn't feel a thing, but when the 4:30 AM news came on KGO I heard about it -- got on our South Bay Emergency Net (146.115, +600 offset, 100 tone) --- and nobody was reporting it down here - nothing, switched my scanner to the various 2 meter fire frequencies - nothing (not even CDF), the cat came in and looked at me with that "What are you doing" look that cats have - so I went back to sleep.
