Why Won't John Graham (Dem. Candidate for 48th Dist.) Campaign?!
I have sent him numerous e-mails on the subject matter from an e-mail address I got on his site. Yeah, Chris Cox beat him by 40% in 2002. Yeah, there are 669,474 registered Republicans here as opposed to 424,355 Democrats. One problem - he's our party's nominee. I can understand not campaigning now, but it's damn near the convention, and after that people are really going to start paying attention. I'm trying to contact him again soon, because though it may seem hopeless, miracles do happen. We can win and give Cox the surprise of his life! His site is http://www.graham4congress.org (it's really out of date but all sources tell me he's running again this year). If you live in the 48th district, please join me in contacting him and urging him to fight!

1. He just wants to be a candidate. It's a status thing.
He has no intention of winning. He shouldn't have run. Is anyone else running who wants to beat Cox?

2. Ugh if I was of age then I would kick Cox's sorry behind!

From what I gather there's only Bruce Cohen (Libertarian). Hell I'd rather have him than Cox. But then again their ain't much of a difference.

Edit: I think he kind of looks like someone (since he's a realtor) whose notepad we get in the mail.

3. sounds like the 45th
same problem. I hear that they are trying to organize Moreno Valley to make this district a winner for Dems.

4. This is how democratic candidates behave in south Orange County
Some years back a woman was running for the assembly - Merrit something, I think. She came to a meeting of the district, made the rounds and then.... disappeared.

5. Damn...it pisses me off cause my parents are actually thinking about
letting me volunteer for a campaign. I wanted to go more local than Kerry, but I suppose I'd like that too.

7. Yes, well.. She started as a Republican but could read the map
(or her advisers could) to realize that her district was getting a majority of Latino voters who, at least in CA, mostly vote Democrats. And then her opponent was B-1 Bob http://nathancallahan.com/shut%20up.html

But in south Orange County - Irvine and south - you have a solid majority of Republicans with a strong incumbent like Chris Cox. Several years ago he even stopped pushing for an airport at El Toro, realizing that even though his base was in Newport Beach, most of his constituents were in the cities neighboring the base who spent a lot of time and money to kill the proposed airport. For all I know, someone might have given him a "friendly" advice that they would run another candidate against him who could easily win the district based on El Toro alone.

in 1996.
