Interesting Voice of Sandiego OpEd about UnionTrib's RW biases
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 09:04 PM by calipendence
I just found this editorial on Voice of San Diego web site by James O. Goldsborough, who used to write columns for the San Diego Union Tribune.

Kind of interesting to see his comments here about how there is such a right wing perspective being used to govern what gets published there. An interesting insider's viewpoint of the so-called "liberal" media!

1. The UT is...

Center-Right which is biased but I wouldn't call it Right Wing. That term should be reserved for extremely right of center media such as National Review or Fox News.

That said I would like to see a centrist publication which dealt with real news, history, and current events in the city. The reader deals almost exclusively with culture while the voice of San Diego seems to be doing a decent job as far as its very limited budget will go. VOSD just can't match the reach of of the UT while San Diego Magazine is exclusively by the rich for the rich.

2. Interesting article
Thanks. This is why we're ranked 27th in the world in freedom of the press. The MSMCorp. has a lock on most of what we're allowed to hear and read.

From your link:

How can a newspaper serve its community, let alone its profession, if it's in the pocket of a political party? How can it do its job of representing the community in speaking truth to power, which is its job, when it refuses to ask the hard questions? How can it do its job when the most searching questions on these issues come not in editorials but in letters-to-the-editor? If that's the case, why not let readers write the editorials, a practice, by the way, with which the Los Angeles Times is experimenting.

My local fishwraps are all conservative. I have to go online. This area is radio station impaired. I have to stream AAR.
Diversions and lies, WH blastfaes, suck up all the print and air time.
The truth would be nice. Just the facts, without right wing spin and lies. Is that asking too much? Sigh. Can we have the Fairness Doctrine back, please!
